Reporting Structure

Reporting to the EVP & Chief People Officer, the Director, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (“DE+I”) serves as a strategic thinker, change agent, and trusted advisor to Cox Media Group’s (“CMG”) business leaders, helping to effectively drive the companywide DE+I strategy and create action plans that deliver meaningful and measurable results. This position requires a high degree of influence and collaboration with all departments.

The successful candidate must be comfortable acting as an individual contributor with a proven track record of successfully leading and championing large scale diversity and change management initiatives leveraging a network of passionate volunteers and company leaders (e.g. BRG leaders, DE+I Committee leaders, etc.) to bring strategies to life. This individual partners with the Talent team on DE+I data analysis to ensure business leaders understand the insights and can create meaningful action plans for change. This working leader collaborates with business leaders and function heads to identify “quick wins,” while also developing and executing long-term diversity initiatives in three key areas of opportunity:

Talent and Culture: Partner with the Talent and Communications teams to create an inclusive, welcoming, and exciting environment that attracts and retains top diverse talent.

Engagement and Education: Innovate and strengthen diversity learning programs to develop talent, expand perspectives, and thoughtfully involve employees in CMG’s DE+I journey.

Community and Partnerships: Proactively cultivate, develop, and support strategic partner relationships nationally and locally to create a robust and effective CMG brand presence in diverse communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

STRATEGY

  • Serves as the senior DE+I subject matter expert and change agent for CMG leading the strategic implementation of a business-driven companywide DE+I strategy that includes short- and long-term goals, KPI’s, action plans and metrics.
  • Establishes clear targets and measures to track meaningful progress over time.
  • Develops data-driven DE+I vision that is grounded in CMG’s objectives of inspiring and relevant DE+I future state.
  • Provides coaching to business/people leaders to develop individual DE+I objectives and performance metrics that support the company’s overall strategy.
  • Conducts on-going research on best practices and recommends strategies to achieve sustained change.
  • Leads CMG DE+I Executive Council and leverages members to provide guidance/recommendations that advance the DE+I strategy companywide.
  • Provides coaching and direction to local DE+I Committees to drive execution of DE+I initiatives.
  • Actively participates in CMG Gets Real content and culture team to influence action items and ensure accurate representation of CMG’s DE+I objectives and progress.
  • Collects and promotes award-winning Gets Real content across CMG markets.
  • Executes a sustainable plan for DE+I BRGs to engage and motivate employees.
  • Partners with analytics on the design and execution of DE+I data packages for CMG’s Executive and Senior Leadership Teams and Board of Directors.

TALENT

  • Works with the Talent team to strategize, develop/implement effective DE+I recruitment to improve CMG’s diverse talent pipeline and increase diverse hires.
  • Partners with platform and market leaders to strengthen relationships with targeted university and industry organizations to attract and retain diverse, multi-generational talent (i.e., HBCUs, TCUs, NABJ).
  • Ensures sound DE+I practices are embedded into all Talent-led programs to maximize opportunities with high potential diverse talent.
  • Partners with the Talent and Communications teams on new-hire on-boarding practices to create an equitable and diverse environment that fosters belonging for all employees.

COMMUNICATIONS and CULTURE

  • Counsels CMG leaders on the strategies, messaging, and tactics that positively position CMG executive leaders as true DE+I advocates.
  • Facilitates discussions to provide an open forum for thought leadership and collaboration among employees.
  • Collaborates with the Communications team to create cohesive communications campaigns that engage our workforce and effectively convey our DE+I strategy both internally and externally.
  • Sources DE+I educational content and speakers/panelists for the CMG Conversation Series and Senior Leadership training.
  • Promotes education and cultural awareness during commemorative months, including African American/Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian Pacific American Heritage, Pride Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, National American Indian Heritage Month, etc.

COMMUNITY

  • Proactively identifies, leads, and manages relationships with national diversity organizations and partners in the management of local partnerships that align with CMG’s DE+I strategy.
  • Represents CMG at virtual/external forums and serves as a subject matter expert at diversity conferences, professional associations, and meetings.
  • Develops CMG’s corporate social responsibility strategy, including charitable giving/volunteerism in underserved communities, environmental perspective, and employee relief support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years in the HR/DE+I field with increasing scope and responsibilities for developing and leading large scale diversity strategies. Corporate Communications experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in partnering with senior-level leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with extensive experience in communicating at the executive level.
  • Proven track record of leading in a matrixed environment, comfortable with ambiguity, able to quickly adapt and/or pivot in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of multicultural diversity, cultural competencies, and laws and regulations pertaining to equal employment opportunity.
  • Excellent project management/organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Team).
  • Established relationships with local and national diversity organizations and partners.
  • A strategic and action-oriented leader who anticipates trends, creates competitive strategies, and implements plans for change.
  • Resourceful working leader who rolls up their sleeves to effectively collaborate and do the work.
  • Builds support, removes organizational barriers, and finds creative solutions to affect DE+I change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree preferred.
