 The Director of Executive Communication and Media Relations will create and implement strategic, multi-faceted communications programs designed to build and strengthen the voice of senior level executives and maintain the company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen. Proven success in strategy integration across internal and external communications, reputation management and an appreciation for the relationship between organizations and their sources of financial support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with department leadership (VP) to enhance relationships with government officials and organizations by leveraging the communities’ social needs with USCC’s community programs and grants.  Support the department’s government relations plans and strategies.
  • Create and implement strategic plan to enhance presence in the marketplace for CEO, Officers and Directors. 
  • Oversee relationship with media relationship agencies charged with both strategic and tactical responsibilities. 
  • Oversee company’s charitable contributions program, donating more than $1.8 million dollars annually.
  • Enhance U.S. Cellular’s relationships in key markets by identifying and securing strategic board appointments and club affiliation for senior management.
  • Identify targeted board appointments and memberships for local Directors of Sales and other customer-facing leaders; negotiates potential board roles with non-profit organizations.
  • Oversee a staff of executive communication, corporate social responsibility, and media relations professionals. Works closely with the corporate communication colleagues in both the design center and frontline communication and disruption center.
  • Ensure all community programming receives news coverage
  • Play a lead role in the development and implementation of media relations plans and strategies for all corporate social responsibility projects including local check presentations
  • Proactively identifies speaking opportunities for senior management at industry conferences, panel discussions, etc.  
  • Write speeches or talking points for executives.
  • Responsible for “about us” section of the USCC website with the exception of the Press Room/media relations section.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline is required (marketing communications, media relations, social work, anthropology, philanthropy)
  • 8 – 10 years professional experience with exposure to corporate communications and philanthropy.
  • Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to interface comfortably with executives and senior leadership, and to effectively represent the company’s interests with non-profit organizations and the community at large
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. 
  • Extensive networking and relationship-building with outside organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience serving in a board-level capacity with non-profit organization is preferred.
