Position Title: Director, Executive Communications & Content Strategy

Department / Supervisor: Public Affairs (10) / Senior Vice President, Public Affairs

FLSA Status: Exempt

Purpose of Position

The Director of Executive Communications & Content Strategy is part of AdvaMeds public affairs team, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and collaborating closely with and writing for AdvaMeds President & CEO, AdvaMeds Chair of the Board of Directors, and other senior leadership.

Essential Duties of Position

  • Adapts to different speaking and writing styles, with an eye for detail and an ability to communicate complex policy in a plainspoken, persuasive way
  • Plans and implements both short- and long-term strategic communications plans to grow AdvaMed and AdvaMed leaderships presence and strength as thought leaders in the healthcare arena
  • Develops in consultation with other departments key messages and communications strategies
  • Implements communications strategies as directed by AdvaMed’s Chairman, President and CEO, and key committee leaders
  • Integrates AdvaMed’s policy position with message development for use in communicating with external audiences
  • Supports the office of the CEO by developing talking points, speeches, and slide decks for internal and external communications, including Board meetings, press conferences, and meetings with high profile external stakeholder groups
  • Supports communication between AdvaMed management and the Board through creation of compelling resources ranging from monthly newsletter content to regular board/member notes

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Candidates must have a track record of excellent professional writing, communication, and project management skills with the ability to plan and manage multiple projects under high-stress deadlines
  • Experience in health care and/or a regulated and global environment is preferred but not required
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into well-written material for broad public consumption
  • Exceptional ability to analyze arguments and process information quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Exceptional credibility, judgment, and diplomacy skills
  • Data, analytics, and metrics oriented
  • Direct knowledge of public affairs strategies and tactics
  • Understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes a plus
  • Strong experience working in Microsoft PowerPoint


  • Minimum Education Required: Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum Experience Required: 6+ years experience in executive communications, corporate communications, professional writing, political/campaign speechwriting, and/or journalism
