BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges System (VSCS) and in partnership with the VSCS Board of Trustees and VSCS Presidents, the Director of External and Governmental Affairs creates and supports meaningful alliances with key stakeholders in business, government, education, non-profit and philanthropic communities in support of the mission and work of the VSCS.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In support of the VSCS mission and vision, the responsibilities and priorities of the Director of External and Governmental Affairs include:

  • Maximizing external public support for member colleges and raising the profile of the VSC statewide.
  • Building partnerships and alliances that support programming and increase enrollment across the VSC system.
  • Liaising with state and federal governments and elected officials on funding and policy issues important to the VSC.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic coalitions to improve higher education advocacy efforts.
  • Assisting the Chancellor, Presidents and Development Officers at the institutions with maximizing resource development and grant opportunities.
  • Supporting the Board of Trustees in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • ·Other duties as assigned by the Chancellor.

 

   SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Direction and supervision are received from the Chancellor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in public policy, advocacy, resources development, and/or development of sustained partnerships.
  • Proven ability to leverage social media and technology, such as Outlook, Zoom, Word, Adobe, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated record of effective administrative management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish rapport and credibility and cultivate partnerships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  •  Excellent writing, listening and communication skills.
  • Proven ability and desire to work at a fast pace.
