Protective Life Corporation has an opening for Dir, Federal Government Affairs. This position is in our Washington, D.C. office. Success in this position requires advanced legal research/writing skills, advanced organizational/management skills, high intellect, tenacity, motivation, and a demonstrated ability to handle details.


    • Tracking and analyzing federal legislative and regulatory priorities.
    • Researching policy proposals, legislative histories, and compliance issues.
    • Develop and nurture key relationships with members of Congress and their staff and other regulatory and political stakeholders.
    • Build relationships with key associations and manage government affairs consultants to help inform Protective Life of key public policy issues, support Protective’s engagement in Washington, and support Protective’s policy objectives.
    • Engage with internal stakeholders frequently to ensure all key priorities are being covered and reported on.
    • Assist with PAC strategy, administration, internal growth efforts, and budgeting.


    • Minimum 2 years experience in government or government affairs (desired)
    • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred); JD (preferred)
    • Strong communication skills (Verbally and Written) (desired)
    • Demonstrated competence of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
    • A working knowledge of life insurance and/or financial services, preferred.
    • Must have excellent research, writing, organizational, team work and communication skills.
    • Self-motivation and great attention to detail are important
    • Must have the ability to handle pressure and prioritize multiple competing projects.
    • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
    • Some travel as appropriate.
This position is an in office position in Washington DC.
Performance-Based Compensation: This position is eligible for an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
