Reporting to the VP, Federal Government Affairs for AVANGRID, this critical role will be instrumental for setting and executing the company’s federal advocacy strategies. This position will focus on Congress, though not exclusively, and manage issues related to all aspects of AVANGRID’s business including both renewable electricity (wind and solar) and utilities (electricity and natural gas).


  • Lead company’s advocacy for federal legislative matters, including both strategy development and execution.
  • Enhance and build trusted relationships on Capitol Hill, that provide access and visibility with key stakeholders, particularly with members of the New England delegation, committees with jurisdiction over energy matters, as well as relevant White House offices.
  • Analyze legislative proposals, work with business leaders to develop company positions, and lobby for the company’s priorities.
  • Represent and further the company’s interests in industry coalitions and trade groups.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build alignment with other lobbyists (internal and external) and business leaders.
  • Support a strong team-oriented culture focused on delivering results.
  • Actively participate in the decision-making for and operation of the AVANGRID Employees’ Political Action Committee, including attending events and supporting activities to maintain and grow the PAC.


Skills and Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in relevant discipline (Engineering, Policy, Law)
•Minimum 10 years relevant work experience (combination Engineering, Policy, Legal)
•Outstanding verbal and writing skills for effective communications to policymakers and corporate leaders
•Ability to leverage relevant IT tools including Microsoft Office and social media.
•Traditional DC based in-office work environment; currently working one hybrid day per week
•Must be willing to register as a federal lobbyist
