What you’ll be doing…

Verizon is seeking an experienced and talented professional to join its Federal Regulatory & Legal Affairs group. The group’s primary practice areas include public policy, federal regulatory and legislative matters for all Verizon business units. Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Work with the business and policy teams to develop policy positions that advance the company’s interests on matters related to public safety and national security. This will involve developing and handling complex technical and policy issues.
  • Advocate the company’s positions before Congress, the FCC, the Department of Commerce (including NTIA), the Department of Homeland Security, other federal agencies and FirstNet.
  • Provide policy support to legislative team in advocating on legislation that affects public safety matters important to the company.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to company’s state government affairs teams on policy matters affecting state legislative and regulatory initiatives.
  • Serve as company’s primary point-of-contact with various national public safety organizations, and work in concert with the business to develop and maintain productive relationships with public safety stakeholders.
  • Work with the business and others in the legal department to develop and maintain productive relationships with other external stakeholders, e.g., trade groups and state/local government associations, in order to promote effective advocacy on public safety matters.
  • Assist in the formulation of business, legislative, and regulatory solutions to problems that expose the company to risk or create opportunities for company growth or other benefit.
  • Assist in the formulation of communications plans and messaging that accurately reflects company’s positions on policy matters and supports company’s business objectives.

What we’re looking for…

  • 8+ years of work experience in Public Policy
  • Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience working with public safety organizations and officials at the national level
  • Regulatory or legislative experience (e.g., FCC or Congressional staff) a plus
  • Ability to understand and handle complex technical, economic and legal issues
  • Experience dealing with decision makers and third-party constituencies
