Leads federal policy and regulatory strategy for McKesson Specialty Health and The US Oncology Network on behalf of the Government Relations & Public Policy team. This position will be based out of the MSH office in Washington, DC working in multiple business and public policy issue areas, including responsibility for Medicare reimbursement and regulations. This individual will act as an organizational expert on legislation, policy research, analysis and forecasting. Will serve as main Congressional point-of-contact and advocate for MSH.
The Director of Federal Government Relations will be responsible for crafting, messaging and implementing federal legislative/regulatory strategies through leadership roles with allied associations and industry trade groups. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive plan to increase Network practice participation in the legislative process through site visits, policy briefings, town hall meetings and political events. Shared responsibility for $1m annual PAC budget.
This individual will manage direct reports, multiple outside consultants to accomplish goals and effectively communicate results with executive leadership.
Leverages issue-area knowledge to lead the federal Government Relations team in the development of public policy positions and strategies.
Responsible for researching, analyzing and forecasting Network-specific implications of federal policy legislation and regulatory proposals.
Manages implementation of a strategic community outreach program, including budget, focused on programs and activities deemed vital to the development and promotion of the US Oncology Network.
Direct management of outside consultants and lobbyists through Network contract engagements.
Develops, maintains and continuously strengthens relationships with allied industry organizations to assist in achieving public policy goals; serves as a liaison between MSH and industry groups.
Strengthens physician relationships with key government policymakers through participation in meetings and individual personal events to ensure effective advocacy. This will consist of all necessary mobilization tactics to ensure that Network physicians are able to participate in meetings with relevant organizations and elected-officials.
Supports the preparation of formal testimony to committees of jurisdiction on issues impacting assigned policy and business areas.
10+ plus years of public affairs experience
At least 12+ years public affairs experience
Thorough knowledge of political, legislative, regulatory and related public affairs projects
Experience working with lobbyist and outside consultants
Recent legislative experience highly preferred
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
4 year degree in public policy, political science or related field
Up to 50% travel, typical travel would consist of 20-30%
