Reporting to the VP, Federal Government Affairs for AVANGRID, this critical role will be instrumental for setting and executing the company’s strategy for federal policy matters related to regulations, permitting, and other federal actions.

This position will focus on the Executive Branch and manage issues related to all aspects of AVANGRID’s business including renewable electricity (wind and solar) and utilities (electricity and natural gas).



Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships that provide the right access and visibility with agencies.
  • Mange company’s strategy development and advocacy for federal regulatory matters particularly with the Departments of Energy, Interior, and Commerce, as well as relevant White House offices.
  • Analyze regulatory proposals, working with business leaders to develop company positions, and draft/submit comments to rulemakings as appropriate.
  • Advance company’s interest related to in federal policy matters and specific projects within an agency’s purview.
  • Focus on federal regulatory issues related to electricity, natural gas, environment, wildlife, and project permitting.
  • Represent and further the company’s interests in relevant coalition and industry group discussions.
  • Establish/enhance internal systems for tracking and reporting on key regulatory developments.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with company’s legislative advocates and business leaders to ensure alignment and enhance effectiveness.

Skills and Requirements

Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred in relevant discipline (Engineering, Policy, Legal)
  • Minimum 10 years relevant work experience (combination Engineering, Policy, Legal)
  • Outstanding verbal and writing skills for effective communications to policymakers and corporate leaders
  • Sophisticated understand and ability to use relevant IT tools including Microsoft Office
