Job Description Overview:
HospitalityMaine (HM) is a 501(c) 6 non-profit trade association representing the state’s hospitality sector which includes food service operations, lodging establishments, and the businesses and organizations that support them.
The Director of Government Affairs (DGA) is responsible for fully understanding the hospitality sector and the education and workforce mission of HospitalityMaine. The DGA will work closely with the HM Board of Directors, HM staff, and report to the HospitalityMaine President and CEO.
Roles and Responsibilities

Track/review legislation filed that may impact the industry

Represent the association at the federal, state and local level

Write testimony for hearings on behalf of the association

Write member alerts on legislative issues

Develop policy positions for the association

Monitor committee meetings, hearings and legislative session

Meet with legislators and articulate the position of the HM on various pieces of legislation

Respond to member regulatory and legislative requests

To assist in grassroots outreach on the state and local level

Represent HM at state and national conferences

Other activities as needed

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree desired – degree in political science, public policy or related field preferred

Minimum of three to four years of professional experience in government relations, legislative affairs, political processes or related field preferred

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to interface effectively with lawmakers, government officials, legislative staff, association staff and industry leaders

Knowledge of lobbying regulations and PACs

Oversee Governmental Affairs Committee and any hired lobbyists.

Must be a self-starter and detail oriented

This position requires some travel around the state, as well as time in the office during the legislative season. There is some flexibility for remote work depending on the schedule.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
