Job Description:

Lesley seeks a Director of Government Relations and University Communications, who will serve to execute a comprehensive communications and community relations strategy to significantly influence engagement with and across the University.


The selected individual, working directly with the President and reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), will help drive the University’s messaging, brand and positioning in alignment with short- and long-term strategic goals; design and execute evolving institutional communication plans; research and write constituent communications, speeches, remarks, and presentations for the President; quickly and strategically develop internal and external communications for the President, while ensuring the integrity of the University’s brand and managing its reputation in the community; cultivate positive relationships with local residents and businesses, government officials, civic organizations; counsel the President on potential public relations concerns or opportunities for expanding community engagement; and assist with the expansion of partnerships with businesses, government agencies, or other community organizations.


The successful candidate will have at least ten years of related or transferable experience; a keen understanding of the issues facing the University and higher education; exceptional communication (verbal and written), leadership, planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills;  the ability to capture and write credibly in the voice of the President; a deep knowledge of, and relationships with, numerous individuals and organizations within the Cambridge and Boston areas; demonstrated ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis; and have at least a Bachelor’s degree.  Master’s degree other advanced degree in a relevant field will be preferred.
