SUMMARY: Responsible for representing Crowley before Congress and other federal government agencies. The position involves identifying priority issues; creating an advocacy strategy around identified issues, implementing the strategy including engaging with external stakeholders such as trade associations and outside consultants.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Build and maintain relationships with key Congressional offices and policymakers. Advocate on policy issues of importance to Crowley. Identify and communicate federal policy changes and their implications to senior management and the business units (including public affairs, legal, and compliance). Build internal consensus on policy changes that may affect Crowley. Build internal support for the Crowley Political Action Committee (PAC). Coordinate with State & Local government relations teams on policy issues and advocacy as appropriate. Be a value-added resource to senior management and business unit leaders to provide political insight and guidance on political and policy developments. Participate in coalition groups and trade association working groups. Schedule meetings and prepare talking points and briefing materials.

 

 

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required.
EXPERIENCE: 10+ years of experience in government relations either from government or with a major corporation, trade association, or another organization devoted to government relations. Experience working with House and Senate offices with a focus on the Defense, T&I, Commerce and Homeland Committees preferred.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to provide subject matter expertise, counsel and effectively influence others at various levels within the organization. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and comfortably with Crowley senior executives, senior business leaders, customers, and high-level government officials.  Ability to think strategically to help address problems and advance business objectives.  Ability to understand the relevance of government action on business decisions.  Ability to manage a set of deadlines and deliverables with limited supervision.  Ability to design and implement government relations campaign(s).  Ability to multi-task and to work in a constantly changing corporate environment.
OTHER: Ability to travel as needed. Register as a lobbyist.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Extended use of a computer keyboard, viewing of a computer monitor and the ability to sit for long periods of time.
