Director, Intergovernmental Affairs

NAHB is seeking a director, Intergovernmental Affairs, to be responsible for establishing and enhancing relationships with external organizations that have the potential to help the NAHB accomplish its public policy objectives.

The director will serve as liaison and assist the VP of Intergovernmental Affairs, and other division/association staff, in representing the industry perspective to outside organizations; and work in coalition and maintain regular communications with all relevant staff, state/local home building associations and their staff leaders, and outside groups.

The director will also:

  • Prepare issue briefs and report/assist with research and writing of advocacy material on public policy issues that impact housing;
  • Conduct research on legislative and regulatory issues of relevance to the building industry; and
  • Serve as primary contact for all member and association inquiries regarding NAHB’s interaction with external organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and organizational skills and excellent research and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are a must.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Basic understanding of political, government, legislative, and regulatory processes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years experience in government/politics (state/local exposure preferred), and/or service in association government/political affairs/an issue-oriented capacity.
  • Prior knowledge of the building and development industry is desirable.
  • Four-year college degree in political science, public affairs, public relations, or related field, or equivalent in education and experience is required.
