Pennsylvania Independent Oil & Gas Association (PIOGA) is the oldest and largest trade group representing all aspects of oil and natural gas development in the Pennsylvania, including conventional and shale producers, midstream companies and the businesses that support their operations. We currently have an opportunity for a new Director of Internal Communications.

The Director of Internal Communications will be responsible for all internal communication functions for the association including the monthly PIOGA Press newsletter, the weekly PIOGA e-mail news clips, member alerts, website, marketing/educational materials, and communication support for President & Executive Director.  In addition, this position will be involved with media and outreach activities, PIOGA’s committees and member events.

This is a full-time exempt position.

The Director of Internal Communications is directly accountable to and works under the supervision of the President & Executive Director and PIOGA’s Board of Directors. This position has no direct reports.

Duties and Responsibilities Summary


  • Write/edit/proofread articles
  • Design pages and graphics
  • Coordinate advertising and renewals
  • Oversight of distribution of newsletter (printed & electronic distribution)

  • Lay out and distribution


  • Participate in committee meetings and document meeting minutes
  • Work with committees on any tasks/projects as needed


  • Design changes/updates/maintenance
  • Regular content updates – news items, blog post, job board, events, graphics
  • Yearly review of all webpages and design needs


  • Generate pre-event publicity such as newsletter articles, website postings and news releases
  • Create and place external electronic and print advertising
  • Event programs – coordinate/generate content, design and coordinate printing
  • Assist with pre-event and onsite tasks as needed

Other Association Communications and Public Relations

  • Work with staff and consultants on PR/communications matters, including monthly Just the Facts, letters to the editor, op-eds and other needs
  • Create or assist with development of brochures, flyers, fact sheets, applications, directories and other print or electronic documents
  • Daily monitoring of media news and legislative/regulatory notices for distribution to internal stakeholder groups (staff, board, committee chairs, etc.)

  • 5-10 years of communications experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the oil & gas industry
  • Publication design and graphics skills
  • Photography and photo editing abilities
  • Website design/maintenance experience
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, troubleshoot, and shift priorities quickly
  • Self-motivated, works independently
  • Integrates well with other team members and comfortable working with teams
  • Ability and commitment to work some weekend and evening hours
  • Willingness to travel to PIOGA office (Wexford, PA) and some association events
  • Software proficiency: MS Office suite, Quark XPress (publication design), Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Constant Content email platform, WordPress (website)


Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field is required. Prior experience handling communications and/or public relations for the oil and gas industry is preferred, but not required.
