Collaborative Communications seeks a highly motivated individual with extensive public relations, communications and project management experience for the role as a Director in our Media and Engagement practice.

Collaborative is a communications and consulting firm specializing in education and learning. We are passionate about helping our clients improve public education within the United States and across the world through learning, collaboration, and engagement.

This position requires communications strategy and project management experience, and a strong understanding of public relations best practices. The Director is a full-time position and based in our Washington, D.C. office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director will:

·       Serve as a senior member of the media and engagement team;

·       Develop and implement effective media and communication strategies, as needed, for projects across the firm that position our clients to stand out in a crowded landscape and effectively navigate political and policy considerations;

·       Oversee projects across the practice area, revising as appropriate to meet changing project needs and requirements and maintaining project documentation;

·       Supervise junior and senior associates, ensuring they build the requisite media and public relations expertise;

·       Demonstrate significant content development experience, authoring op-eds, policy papers, briefs, collateral pieces, and other written pieces for clients;

·       Develop and deliver communications products and services that include print and online publications, social media and other online communications, media and public relations, and marketing materials;

·       Cultivate and sustain relationships among clients and partners, developing strong relationships with media sources, consultants, vendors and other resource providers;

·       Foster business among new and existing clients;

·       Help to develop the Collaborative brand and expand the organization’s footprint across the sector; and

·       Understand client contracts and billing procedures and track financial health of all projects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • 6-8 years of communications and public relations experience, with some experience at a consulting firm preferred;
  • At least 3 years of project management experience;
  • At least 5 years of experience leading content development across media channels, including blog posts, press releases, commentaries, reports, one-pagers, e-newsletters, email marketing, and social media copy;
  • Ability to both develop and implement media and engagement strategies for clients;
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with external partners at the highest levels of business, government, and the education and social sectors;
  • A can-do attitude, with the drive to get the work done alongside the team, no matter how large or small the task;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline required; Master’s degree preferred but not required; and
  • Commitment to and strong understanding of K-12 education issues as well as issues related to children and families and workforce development.

 

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The Director, Media and Engagement will work across teams and report to the firm’s leadership. This full-time position is based in Washington, DC, and is Metro accessible. Collaborative offers excellent benefits.
