Director of Volunteer Engagement
As the Director of Volunteer Engagement, you will thrive in NIC’s fast-paced environment where you will prioritize the many tasks required to support NIC’s large and growing base of volunteers in a variety of roles and locations. You will use your outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with C-Suite volunteers in the senior housing and care industry and with the new audiences NIC seeks to engage as part of its strategic plan. Using your superb listening skills and ability to identify volunteer passions, you will work with them to effectively utilize their time and skills, develop, and refine their ideas and insights, and promote networking and connections.
You will lead NIC in understanding the NIC value proposition for individuals to contribute their time to NIC, articulating effective pitches to potential volunteers, and stewarding volunteer engagement with NIC. You will be the primary contact for new volunteers, strive to make NIC a “Great Place to Volunteer,” develop programs to recruit, onboard, and integrate volunteers into NIC’s boards and committees, and build a strong system of training, support, and stewardship for volunteers and staff working with volunteers. The Director of Volunteer Engagement reports to the President and CEO and will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Location: The position is located at the NIC Offices in Annapolis MD but can be hybrid within a three-hour drive or train commute of the office.

Key Responsibilities:
In the role, you will create and maintain programs for effective, coordinated Volunteer Experiences by:
· Developing and updating a strategy for volunteer engagement that identifies specific areas of need/opportunity and where and how new volunteers will be effectively recruited. Such a strategy shall differentiate between recruitment pitch and strategy for those in the industry and those from outside the industry that are part of the new audiences NIC seeks to engage.
· Organizing systems for screening, onboarding, and training new volunteers, and ensuring effective engagement throughout a volunteer’s involvement at NIC.
· Directing systems for enhancing volunteer engagement including surveys to evaluate volunteer preferences and experiences.
· Overseeing information about NIC volunteer opportunities on our website.
· Coordinating outreach to recruit new volunteers and facilitate diversity and inclusion.
· Developing a volunteer stewardship program including understanding the value proposition to the volunteer for serving as a volunteer to NIC.
· Coordinating professional development opportunities for volunteers.
Other Responsibilities:
· Travel to locations for job-related meetings and events.
· Seek out and attend trainings and continuing education for job-related topics.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Commitment to NIC’s mission, values, and vision.
· Demonstrated success in matching people with job opportunities, preferably volunteer opportunities, in roles such as recruiting or fund development.
· Track record of connecting professionals with one another in a way that those individuals view as beneficial due to enhancing their knowledge and career growth.
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
· At least 2 years’ experience working with volunteers.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
· Experience with Salesforce and survey technology.
· Demonstrated experience networking with LinkedIn.
Compensation: Compensation will be competitive and reflect the qualifications, skills, and experience of the applicant. The range for base salary will be $125k to $150k.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is generally remote but when working in the NIC office environment there may be exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily or prolonged periods of time and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary. Physical requirements of this position include the following:
