Job Summary

The Director of Policy and Management provides leadership in the day-to-day operations of the Adam Smith Center for the Study of Economic Freedom, as well as developing, coordinating, and promoting research efforts in the area of economic policy and its effects on human prosperity, both in the United States and around the world.

Duties include:

  • Provides leadership in developing, coordinating, and promoting research initiatives in the area of economic policy and its effects on human prosperity, including topics such as: the study of capitalism, regulation, free trade, and others.
  • Supports the Director in the development of business opportunities and external funding proposals.
  • Serves as Principal Investigator in selected empirical research projects.
  • Works with students to provide fellowships and mentoring opportunities to engage in scholarly studies of the effect of political and economic systems on human prosperity.
  • Participates in conferences and external meetings related to the mission of the Center.
  • Develops and delivers educational and training materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining key relationships with external stakeholders, including universities, think tanks, community and business leaders, and government agencies, among others.
  • Drafts and/or reviews grant solicitations and other procurement documents, engagement plans, action plans, work plans, and other documents that layout strategies and plans.
  • Monitors achievement of milestones, performance indicators, and work plans to ensure the Center is accomplishing its goals and objectives.
  • Manages and oversees all financial operations of the Center, which include state, research, auxiliary, and foundation funds.  Aligns budget to ensure consistency with strategic goals, including budget development and administration of operations.
  • Provides administrative direction to all business and support functions for the Center.
  • Supervises assigned administrative and staff employees.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related work experience or Master’s degree in a related field and six (6) years of related work experience.

Departmental Requirements

Master’s degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related experience in public policy and management.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education and in government. 
  • Doctoral degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership to build and sustain relationships with faculty members, business and community leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Strong project management skills
