Our Director of Policy & Regulatory Affairs will be integral to supporting Generac’s leadership in the Energy Technology space. We are seeking a policy expert who is passionate about clean energy technology and grid transformation. During this exciting time of technological and policy change we are looking for an advocate to advance distributed, clean energy polices and regulations. This individual would represent Generac in key market states in the Eastern U.S. and before federal agencies and Congress. This individual would evaluate regulatory requirements and opportunities and partner with business leaders to develop go-to-market strategies related advanced battery and inverter solutions, home energy management, virtual power plants, distributed energy resource management, demand response, wholesale market integration / ancillary services, energy trading among other emerging opportunities. (S)he will advance our strategic policy and regulatory strategy to Power a Smarter World before federal agencies and state public utility commissions, energy offices, legislatures and other Eastern state administrative agencies, while collaborating with clean energy industry peers, utilities, non -profit advocates and other energy policy thought leaders.



What you will do:
  • Lead policy and regulatory advocacy before federal agencies and Congress, as well as energy regulatory and policy agencies in priority Eastern states.
  • Advance energy and environmental policies and regulation to expand Generac’s impact in delivering clean and resilient energy solutions. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine strategic approaches for influencing and responding to policy and regulatory requirements and opportunities.
  • Develop strategic relationships with policymakers and regulatory agencies in key markets. Educate policymakers, regulators and advocates about Generac’s Energy Technology solutions and amplify Generac’s reputation as a leading clean energy solutions provider.
  • Drive profitability and reduce costs by accessing government supported incentives and limiting regulatory and tax burdens.
  • Provide guidance to business partners, including Product Management, Sales, Technology and Executive Management across the Energy Technology organization to support new market and product expansion and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in regulatory and industry conferences to share Generac’s strategy and capacity to power a smarter world.
  • Provide executive summaries and presentations to update business leaders on policy and regulatory developments. Track relevant proceedings and programs at DOE, FERC, Treasury and key state commissions and agencies.
  • Coordinate and manage consultants and lobbyists and manage trade association engagement.



Minimal Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, government, policy, communications or business or related field or equivalent experience
  • 7 plus years of progressive work experience focused on policy and regulatory affairs or government service in energy or environmental domain
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Public Policy, Law, Economics or related field or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience working at or advocating before Congress, public utility commissions or energy/environmental agencies.
  • Strong understanding of energy markets and regulation, energy distribution networks and technology, and distributed energy compensation issues.
Preferred skills & knowledge: 
  • Excellent writing, public speaking, presentation, and advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of and curiosity about energy and utility industry practices, technology and market trends.
  • Strategic, collaborative, engaging, self-motivated and passionate about improving the energy system and tackling climate change.
  • Track record of taking initiative and influencing regulatory processes and/or other stakeholder processes to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect energy policy positions to commercial opportunities.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills.
