The Director, Public Affairs develops and coordinates communication strategies and plans in support of Humana’s business and policy priorities targeted to outside the organization. The Director, Public Affairs requires an in-depth understanding of the intersections of government, business, and regulation/legislation.
Responsibilities
The Director, Public Affairs, is responsible for helping Humana navigate complex challenges at the intersection of government and business. This position leads the development and execution of communication campaigns that support Humana Inc., working in concert with policy and government affairs teams to progress Corporate Affair priorities. The Public Affairs Director is responsible for identifying opportunities, developing communication strategies, and managing the execution of public relation programs that protect and enhance Humana’s reputation with key influencers.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with various stakeholders across corporate affairs including legal, policy, government affairs, investor relations and senior management
- Develop external advocacy/public relation strategies and approaches for supporting Humana’s business priorities and policies across Medicare, Primary Care, Home, etc.
- Distill complex information into short, straightforward and digestible content applicable for D.C. (e.g., Op-eds, talking points, briefings, social media)
- Foster relationships with key media, trade organizations and influencers to enhance and protect Humana’s reputation and advance business objectives and policies
- Lead ongoing media relations and engagement on relevant topics to enhance Humana’s visibility with media inside the Beltway
- Cultivate relationship and coordinate efforts with trade associations/coalitions like AHIP and BMA
- Partner with Humana’s content teams to infuse corporate owned and social channels with relevant advocacy/business content
- Develop multimedia and digital strategies to complement Public Affairs campaigns
- Oversee development of messages, materials and other communication tools in support of Public Affairs campaigns
Key Candidate Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in public affairs, public relations, communications with a focus on the intersection of government and business
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, public affairs
- Experience working in a legislative and regulated environment
- Experience working with and counseling senior management
- Experience in crisis communications
- Strong experience in developing compelling public affairs campaigns and content including key positioning, messaging, and toolkits
- Proven ability in media relations
