The Director, Public Affairs and Campaigns helps design, coordinate, and execute public affairs advocacy campaigns that include campaign management, consultant oversight and engagement, grassroots activities, social media planning and content production, budgeting, paid media, polling, and earned media activities. Position also works with the Vice President to design and implement comprehensive outreach initiatives to strategic organizational partners, helps manage and expand advocacy coalitions, and helps coordinate other AHIP member and stakeholder public affairs programming.

  1. Works with Vice President, consultants, and senior association leadership to plan and execute comprehensive advocacy campaigns and communications plans across AHIP’s strategic priorities to advance policy objectives
  2. Works with Vice President to develop and execute advocacy coalition campaigns to advance policy priorities, engage external audiences, and increase coalition membership
  3. Responsible for generating and disseminating various communications resources, including press releases, blog posts, action alerts, newsletters, fact sheets, talking points, scripts, and related collateral for both internal and external audiences
  4. Collaborates closely with accounting, legal, and compliance departments
  5. Identifies opportunities to engage on AHIP’s strategic priorities and promote AHIP research and initiatives
  6. Develops and manages external relationships with strategic partners
  7. Interacts with state and local partners, Capitol Hill audiences, and AHIP member organizations
  8. Provides updates to AHIP members and senior staff on campaign and public affairs activities related to strategic priorities
  9. Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with standard days and hours of work, however may require long hours and weekend work.

  1. Exceptional written and oral communication skills; especially persuasive writing and editing
  2. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced environment
  3. Understanding of traditional and new media cycles and processes
  4. Organized self-starter with strong initiative who can proactively identify opportunities to drive an advocacy agenda
  5. Effective team player and the ability to work in close collaboration with a wide variety of teams
  6. Professional in demeanor and able to work and communicate effectively with senior executives

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelors of Arts in Political Science or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  2. 4 years of experience on political or advocacy campaigns
  3. 3 years of experience working with external stakeholders including advocacy organizations and elected officials
  4. 1.5 years of experience with advocacy and communications campaigns, health care related work a strong plus
