Description
PLUS Communications, a public affairs firm based in Arlington, VA, is looking for a Director with strong media relations and communications experience to join its growing team.
This role will support a variety of client accounts – coordinating earned media opportunities, building reporter relationships, crafting concise written materials and messaging, and serving as a project manager.
Job Responsibilities:
- Media Outreach + Strategy:
- Serving as a media relations expert across a variety of clients, including coalitions, Fortune 500 companies, trade associations and non-profits
- Supporting media relations efforts from booking television/radio appearances, pitching opinion pieces, coordinating press calls, among other tactics
- Developing proactive media strategies that align with broader public affairs and PR goals at the national, state and local levels
- Building and maintaining a rolodex of reporters, producers, bookers, bloggers
- Materials + Message Development:
- Crafting concise, persuadable communications materials, including talking points, opinion pieces, press releases, pitches, statements
- Project Management:
- Serving as a project manager for client accounts – managing deliverables, timelines, outside vendors
- Supporting reporting, presentation development and tracking for key clients
- Mentoring junior staff on communications strategies, tactics, and best practices
Requirements
- Ideal candidates will have 5-7 years of relevant PR experience, including PR agency expertise or experience directly engaging with press on Capitol Hill / in the Administration / in a corporate setting
- Previous Capitol Hill experience, with either Republican or Democrat offices, is ideal
- Proven relationships with the media across broadcast outlets, newspapers, blogs, and familiarity with the newest media outlets; experience pitching press across a variety of issues
- Interest in public affairs and policy issues; ability to synthesize technical content into persuadable messages
- Experience writing and editing materials for multiple voices – including elected officials, CEOs, and other C-Suite executives
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously working across a variety of issues
- Ability to work under pressure to manage tight deadlines while juggling multiple projects and changing priorities
- A team player with a can-do attitude and a willingness to work in the trenches
