Relatively new to the U.S. market, the innovative compounds of the Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Group have already enjoyed commercial success under the brand labels of our U.S. partners. In this next phase of development, we plan to bring exciting new compounds to market under our own MT Pharma America label. We’re currently building a new commercial organization and expanding our other functions to support this strategy.

Reporting to the VP, Chief Commercial Officer, the Director, Public Affairs and Corporate Communication is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategy, both external and internal, that supports MT Pharma America and its brands. This includes the execution and support of integrated strategic communication plans in collaboration with business clients, partners, healthcare providers and patient communities. This role will also ensure consistency and alignment with overall corporate headquarters’ communication policies and guidance.


  • Develop communication and public relations strategy for the MTPA brand:
  • Coordinate with MTPA leadership to understand and craft core narrative
  • Review/refine narrative with partners
  • Oversee development of MTPA themes and messaging based on narrative
  • Promote executive visibility, including conceptualizing, seeking, vetting and preparing for opportunities, based on audience and communication goals, e.g., speaking engagements, media interviews and policy/political engagement
  • Execute strategic media plan:
  • Assist MTPA leadership in refinement of external and internal message
  • Translate the MTPA point of view into all communication, including that of partners
  • Ensure alignment of all communication within the MTPA communications platform (digital, social media, etc.) to reinforce core messaging
  • Test and refine audience priorities, goals and outcomes
  • Develop strategic editorial calendar to ensure the right venues & opportunities:
  • Create communication grid aligning key MTPA stories, spokespersons and appropriate media channels
  • Identify and pitch high-payoff venues
  • Evaluate opportunistic venues
  • Determine proper alignment of message/messenger/channel
  • Oversee owned/shared media; ensure proper use of website/social media channels for recruitment and MTPA positioning
  • Develop and execute strategic business press media plan:
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with top-tier national and international media
  • Maintain positive relationships with key reporters/editors to understand their interests and focus
  • Ensure reporter/editor understanding of MTPA position and availability for inclusion of reporting
  • Execute proactive plan with support from agency
  • Recommend participation in reactive & opportunistic media placement
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategy and plan
  • Manage intranet and corporate website content including the development/oversight of content calendar and calendar updates
  • Provide message planning, development, editing, as needed, in support of communication programs and business initiatives
  • Drive/manage corporate social media strategy and content calendar, supporting MTPA’s brand and events
  • Develop, execute and maintain employee communication strategy through development and execution of templates, communication standards and materials for the organization. Support the content, planning and organization of company meetings, i.e. town halls, sales meetings
  • Provide strategic guidance and counsel to brand team(s) on all corporate communication matters
  • Support crisis response strategies, develop strategic media responses including key messages, reactive statements and identification of credible spokespeople
  • Identify and drive creative news-making opportunities that inspire business media to favorably cover MTPA
  • Partner to build, evolve and maintain a clear narrative that directly drives and supports the business priorities
  • Develop extensive external materials in support of the narrative, including messaging platforms/narratives, press releases/alerts, executive bios, media pitches, reactive statements and extensive Q&A documents; collaborates with Legal Department to ensure documents are fully compliant
  • Serve as company spokesperson; also prepare and counsel leadership team members for media interviews
  • Works with communicators in the global business units to ensure plans, messages and materials are fully aligned to ensure coherent corporate voice


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or related
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of communication experience including external media, public relations and employee communication, gained in both corporate and agency settings
  • 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry
  • 3-5 years of digital media experience
  • Preferred experience includes: directing external creative teams (agencies, freelancers); prior work with patient advocacy programs; and investor relations experience
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical, manufacturing and regulatory environment
  • Exceptional writing and communications skills
  • Exceptional project management skills; can lead, plan and integrate programs
  • Highly collaborative team player; self-starter, proactive with sound judgment
  • Positive interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
