Macy’s is seeking a Director of Social Media Publishing & Strategy. This role will lead the communication & creative strategy across all social platforms. They will develop new and relevant content and strategic recommendations using data-driven insights that will continuously optimize for growth. The position will report to the Senior Director Customer Strategy & Engagement. Perform other duties as assigned.


We believe that social media is both art and science. We are looking for an experienced Director with a data-driven creative mindset.


Essential Functions:


  • Development and refinement of social content strategy derived from customer insights.
  • Oversight of business briefs and creative briefs (where applicable) to initiate projects.
  • Liaison with media team to identify strategic platforms and alignment KPIs.
  • Responsible for regular reporting, ‘state of social’, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with leaders of other disciplines within Macy’s to bring to life the process and engine to fuel an always on publishing effort across major social media platforms.
  • Own the editorial calendar collaborating with key partners to create a compelling set of assets closely aligned with customer strategy.
  • Oversee and manage internal documentation of social best practices, “one-pagers” and guidelines for distribution to brand editorial and sales team.
  • Lead the moderation efforts across media relations, customer service and agency.
  • Identify best practices by platform to message effectively.


  • Lead in-house social discipline including strategy, creative and moderation (internal/external).
  • Lead and inspire team to pursue new ideas and creative territories.
  • Lead efforts with external social partners, vendors, and 3rd party platforms to execute against a diverse set of high-priority social initiatives.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.



  • BA Degree.
  • 7 years of experience in social media roles; minimum 3 years managing a team of experts.
  • Experience working with a large, complex organization.
  • Experience with digital site analytics.
  • Strong understanding of social media marketing strategy and the entire social marketing mix – paid, organic, owned and earned.
  • Early adopter of new and emerging social media platforms – passionate about both being a user/consumer of social content as well as analyst/strategist.
  • Sharp understanding and point of view on social media trends. Follows leading blogs, thought leaders and stays abreast of the latest content, product and marketing trends in social.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Physical Demands:

  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.
  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time. 
  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.

Other Skills:

  • Strong influencing skills and ability to turn recommendations into reality.
  • Exceptional data storyteller with outstanding presentation skills and a marketing mindset, able to distill complex data sets into tangible and actionable insights.

Work Hours:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
