Summary of Position: Responsible for providing regulatory and legislative advocacy and monitoring at the federal level. This position also assists in developing and promoting the organization’s policies and objectives involving local, state, and federal government affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Analyze policy proposals at the federal, state, and local level and determine impact to the industry and ability to effect change.
    • Create strong relationships with key constituencies within the industry and become a trusted advisor to NAMA members.
    • Maintain and create strong relationships with Members of Congress, administration officials and regulatory agencies.
    • Represent NAMA and the industry in food and beverage coalition organizations.
    • Lead the orchestration of agenda, policy issues, and engagement campaign for annual DC Fly-In and Public Policy Conference.
    • Update and maintain NAMAs grassroots advocacy program
    • Manage NAMAs Government Affairs Committee.
    • Prepare government affairs presentations and communications materials as needed.
    • Support and manage compilation of annual government affairs budget.
    • Manage speakers and content for annual trade shows and other education platforms related to government affairs.
    • Complete lobbying reports as required by law.
    • Create press releases, member alerts, and webinars regarding timely government affairs issues.
    • Manage consultants as needed.
    • Lead efforts related to Member of Congress industry visits.
    • Manage state and local government relations team; prioritizing tasks and resources focused on ROI.
    • Represent NAMA at various industry and non-industry events across the country, providing remarks, presentations, or sitting on panel discussions.

Technical Requirements – Education, Areas of Knowledge and Experience

  • Four-year degree is required.
  • Three to five years Capitol Hill experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with federal agencies would be helpful in performing duties of the position.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to work with a multi-client service model
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Excellent communication skills with professionality phone etiquette are essential
  • Must be responsive, detail minded, and flexible
  • Some management experience preferred

Travel 25% in this position is required
