About the Role:

As Director of State Government Affairs, you will report to the State President, supporting Windstream’s state and local level policy advocacy, community relations, and partnership opportunities.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the VP-SGA, government affairs strategy team, and subject matter experts to establish and prioritize Windstream’s policy objectives for individual states and local government across your region.
  • Collaborate with VP-SGA in the development of advocacy plans to achieve Windstream’s local policy objectives.
  • Advocate before local governments, chambers, committees, regarding Windstream’s objectives; speak on behalf of Windstream at County and Municipal meetings, events, regional meetings, and conferences promoting Kinetic by Windstream and educating them on our progress.
  • Ensure we are well positioned to be the partner of choice with these communities for state and federal funding opportunities.
  • Assist in lobbying efforts.
  • Serve as a contact for escalations within the region you cover.
  • Liaise with community associations when joint policy positions are discussed and adopted.
  • Serve as a local liaison with key legislative, executive, and regulatory officials. Introduce them to Windstream and keep them up to date on our business developments and government affairs priorities.
  • Attend political fundraisers and charitable events to further relationships with state and local government officials.
  • Notify the VP-SGA, legal department and others of newly adopted city, and county orders/rules/legislation that may impact our efforts. This notice should include a summary of key provisions in the item, relevant background, and a description of next steps in the proceeding/implementation dates.
  • Develop relationships with and enlist advocacy support from key Windstream operations personnel in your region.  This work includes providing updates to regional personnel on our advocacy efforts as well as coordinating their participation in meetings where it is important to have the local perspective.
  • Assist marketing to ensure Windstream is positioned to compete for local government contracts for services.
  • Recommend and support charitable activities that will help Windstream develop goodwill with state and local officials who play an important role within your region.
  • Monitor telecom business developments at the state and local level.

 

Do You Have?

  • 8+ years professional level experience leading state, regional, and local level policy advocacy for a corporation with a college degree
  • Experience developing relationships and enlisting advocacy support from key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence others.

Qualifications

 Minimum Requirements:

College degree and 8+ years of professional experience leading state, regional, and local level policy advocacy.
