We are looking for a Director of State and Local Government and Industry Affairs to join our Legal and Public Affairs team. This is a remote position. You will advance Total Wine & More’s legislative, regulatory, political and community positions and issues with state and local officials, community and civic leaders, opinion leaders and shapers, industry members and the public. You will promote our image externally, ensuring that image is positive and consistent for all audiences. You will work cooperatively with internal departments to identify issues that require government affairs solutions and creates and executes an action plan to achieve our goals. You will have outstanding organizational and exemplary personal communication skills. You will have demonstrated skills in regulated industries, workings of state and local legislative, regulatory and administrative responsibilities, the art of negotiation, public relations and community outreach. You will report to the Vice President, Public Affairs & Community Relations.

You will

  • Develop, provide direction for, and oversight of, government affairs efforts including direct and grassroots lobbying of elected officials and community leaders, legislative and regulatory issues management and political activities
  • Communicate our issues and plans
  • Manage network of local and state public affairs consultants (outside lobbyists, public relations teams ) and vendors
  • Represent company before industry and community organizations, associations and groups
  • Work with internal and external partners to ensure TWM themes and messages are positively and consistently transmitted to all audiences – including general public, community leaders, elected officials, local, state and national media, and industry associations and organizations
  • Find opportunities for strategic media outreach and community partnerships both locally and regionally to build the TWM brand
  • Work with internal departments to support their unique external affairs requirements
  • Work with other TWM departments to set conditions for company expansion

You will come with

  • Undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts, Communications, Business or related field ; Graduate degree
  • 7+ years’ experience in public affairs or public service
  • Experience working in a regulated industry
  • Ability to travel 50%
