Director, US Federal Government Relations

About this role
Lead U.S. federal government relations activities for the market leader and a trusted consumer brand. Advance Carrier’s mission as the leader for safe, sustainable, intelligent buildings and cold chain solutions. Be the primary contact with Members of Congress (MOC’s), Administration officials and policy influencers in Washington, D.C. Align political action committee contributions with MOC’s to advance Carrier’s political priorities. Collaborate and advise the Vice President of Government Relations, corporate and business unit representatives to create and execute government relations strategies, programs, and initiatives. Report to the Vice President of Government Relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and advance government relations initiatives
- Monitor policies and political trends that impact the business
- Develop and maintain relationships with Members of Congress and Administration officials, including, but not limited, to Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State Department and Department of Commerce
- Raise Carrier’s Washington, D.C. profile to relevant organizations, professional societies, and energy, sustainability, and climate policy influencers
- Collaborate and advise business leaders to succeed in policy related meetings
- Forge, maintain, and enhance a relationship with non-government organizations and academic institutions to win advocates, mitigate potential risks, and solve problems
- Support and coordinate corporate social responsibility efforts
- Drive the Carrier PAC giving plan each political cycle
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in government, corporate, firm, or major Non-Government Organization (NGO) in a government relations or public policy capacity
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to develop and implement strategies that secure support from key government agencies and relevant regulators
- Knowledge of the federal government systems and dynamics with strong existing relationships
- Proven diplomacy and advocacy skills to effectively handle relationships with government officials
- Experience securing the adoption of legislation, regulations, codes, and standards
- Proven capability to deliver results through a large, multi-functional organization
- Prefer professional experiences in energy, climate, and sustainability policies
- Strategic thinking and accountability
- Research and writing capabilities (English)
- A team player with a strong sense of personal initiative
- Represent the company at political events
- Flexibility for travel in the United States
- Limited international travel may be required
