Director, US Government Relations
As a member of the Worldwide Government Relations leadership team, the Director for US Government Relations Group will lead U.S. federal and state government lobbying and advance Intel’s policy positions with government officials by leveraging the group’s influencer networks, strong government connections, and political know-how.
The ideal candidate will have between 5 to 10 years of experience in senior positions with the U.S. government as well as relevant leadership experience in industry. Other desired qualifications are noted below. This position will interact with other groups in Intel’s Government, Markets and Trade (GMT) organization to advance Intel’s policy positions.
- Recruit, train, and manage staff charged with lobbying on multiple policy issues across the entire U.S. federal government as well as with relevant state governments, including issues related to tax, telecommunications, intellectual property, consumer privacy, trade, cybersecurity and encryption, green energy, competition, and immigration policies.
- Partner with GMT’s Policy and Technical Affairs group and business executives to develop strategic engagements with the government. Compose advocacy materials and background documents to educate executives and coordinate their interactions with policy makers.
- Direct the activities of multiple consultants and law firms, and with other groups in GMT, help coordinate Intel’s interaction with trade associations, NGOs, think tanks, and other partners.
- Help the Policy and Technical Affairs Group develop annual strategic plans to guide policy advocacy and inform resource allocation for our government objectives.
- Ensure that the company is compliant with all federal and state registration and lobbying disclosure laws associated with interactions with US government officials.
- Help develop and execute Intel’s strategic and tactical responses to pending legislation, regulation and policy issued by federal elected officials, regulatory agencies and key policymakers. This includes internal alignment and external engagement with trade associations, relevant third parties, and directly with policymakers.
- Build solid relationships with federal authorities, regulatory agency heads and key policymakers to enhance Intel’s reputation and image among relevant authorities, and create the ecosystem needed for Intel’s businesses to flourish.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA, MPA, MPP) is highly desirable.
- At least 5, but preferably 10 or more years, of relevant experience with the U.S. federal government.
- Past experience, based on a government affairs position in industry or other employment, of lobbying elected officials, policymakers, government agency heads, and trade associations.
- A thorough understanding of legislative processes, with a proven track record of designing successful advocacy campaigns that achieved favorable policy outcomes.
- Ability to build strong relationships with individuals at all levels of seniority – in and out of the organization. Can comfortably influence, negotiate, and handle conflict with minimal disruption.
- Experience managing relationships with lobbyists/consultants and shaping positive public opinion.
- Can identify when to develop and deploy research, media relations or communications strategies to advance lobbying objectives.
- Executive Presence: Able to effectively engage and communicate with executive-level audiences whether in a board room, at the podium, or facilitating a meeting.
- Clear reputation for ethical conduct and unquestionable integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve political and/or policy issues that threaten success.
- Excellent political and business judgment; high degree of discretion; strong analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
