Position Summary:


The Manufacturing Institute, the workforce and education partner of the National Association of Manufacturers, is looking for a Director of Women’s Initiatives to lead our rapidly expanding work with STEP Women’s Initiative and support the overall growth of diversity and inclusion solutions in the manufacturing sector in partnership with the Vice President, Strategic Engagement. You’ll be joining a team of entrepreneurial problem-solvers designing programs and creating partnerships to attract and prepare the manufacturing workforce of tomorrow and upskilling workers of today. This team works as part of a larger MI team to accomplish our mission of closing the skills gap and exciting, educating and empowering the workforce of today and tomorrow. A successful candidate will bring passion and ideas to solving our workforce challenges while also being focused on executing tasks and ensuring program deliverables and goals are met, while building partnerships and delivering a high-quality experience.



Day to Day Responsibilities:

·         Work with the VP to execute and build a robust STEP Women’s Initiative and #MFGWomen’s program and network. The Director will play an essential role in helping develop, deliver and maintain new women’s focused workforce programs and offerings.

·         Build, manage and lead the process of a multi-state, multi-employer alumnae program, including:

o   Organize all existing materials and assets into easily accessible, web-based format for use by current and new program participants;

o   Develop new materials and assets, including researching, drafting and working with cross-functional teams to create externally-facing products;

o   Develop a schedule of events and training sessions to support the expansion of the program to new locations, as well as assist with the delivery of the current programming;

o   Manage the budget for this program and assist in the finalization and implementation of a business plan to enable long-term sustainability of the program;

o   Assist in program growth by recruiting, developing and supporting new companies and regions through start-up and implementation;

    • Create a benchmarking process to learn the best practices of individual components of the program as currently delivered, and deploy a process to regularly benchmark existing and new programs through an annual reporting system;
    • Identify the highest need assets and materials to increase employer and student participation in the apprenticeship program and support and manage the creation of those materials;
  • In partnership with the VP, the Director will be the main interface with the MI’s stakeholders on women engagement and development targeted programming as appropriate on MI initiatives. The Director will lead and support the growth of the diversity and inclusion solutions and partnerships including:
    • Determine the demand and effectiveness of D&I policies and processes, and develop and write public-facing project and program materials, reports and updates;
    • Identify effective new models of training, policies and practices and incorporating those best practices into existing programs;

·         Manage and lead the online community(ies), including:

o   Create and draft new materials, content and events in the women’s engagement space;

o   Develop a schedule of events to support the expansion of the community, and delivery of the current programming;

o   Create a benchmarking process to learn the best practices of individual components of the program as currently delivered, and deploy a process to regularly benchmark existing and new programs through an annual reporting system;

·         Prepare and deliver public presentations on the full range of workforce activities sponsored by the Manufacturing Institute;

·                       Supervisory Responsibilities:



·                     Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university;

·                     7-10 years related work experience, including experience in:

    • Workforce development
    • Women’s engagement programming preferred
    • Familiarity with diversity and inclusion programming

·                     Experienced with communications and content creation, including developing online communities;

·                     Experienced in project management and implementation;

·                     Prior association experience preferred;

·                     Experience with marketing and sales of programs preferred;

·                     Proficiency in Word for Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and familiarity with or ability to learn Web content management applications;

·                     Must be well organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work well under pressure and able to manage workload to meet deadlines;

·                     Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, perform multiple tasks using various software applications

·                     Strong editing and proofreading skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

·                     Excellent writing skills;

·                     Comfort and proficiency in public speaking;

·                     Team oriented and customer service focused with the ability to interact regularly with staff, executives, and other stakeholders;

·                     Willingness to travel.
