The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Division Manager, Communications – Western.  Working as a member of the Marketing and Communications department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

The Division Manager, Communications will help create and execute day-to-day communications and media relations planning and execution throughout the year with particular focus on media outreach writing, pitching, and strategy with goals for secured stories and mentions. Ideal candidate will have overall excellent communications skills with experience in public relations, media handling and placing guests for web/print and broadcast interviews and stories in support of the Lung Association’s renowned programs, events, and advocacy campaigns, and other communications projects. Collaborates with the Division Senior Director of Communications on development, management and execution of other creative projects as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Build and develop media relations relationships and actively discover new ways to promote the American Lung Association through both marketing and earned media opportunities.
  • Build and manage media plans, media lists and media monitoring reports.
  • Responsible for writing and developing a variety of communication materials, including news releases, marketing materials and newsletter content.
  • In coordination with the Division Senior Director of Communications, work with markets and offices throughout the Western Division on the development and execution of communications plans and materials to promote special events, mission-related programs and advocacy awareness activities.
  • Work with local staff on writing and submitting interesting and actionable public facing content.
  • Collaborate with Division Senior Director of Communications on specific ad hoc and ongoing marketing assignments.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Stay up to date on communication trends and media strategies.
  • In coordination with the Division Senior Director of Communications, act as brand guardian and ambassador to ensure all communications activities build the American Lung Association brand,
  • Actively seeks opportunities to put brand top-of-mind for our key audiences across all platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations or related field required
  • Three to five years of highly relevant experience in media relations and communications
  • Health and non-profit/NGO experience a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with PowerPoint and Excel skills; Adobe Photoshop and other visual programs skill a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills, including:  writing concisely and persuasively for diverse audiences in various mediums/channels; adhering to brand guidelines/tone and voice; proofreading and self-editing; editing and consolidating feedback from multiple stakeholders
  • Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Self-motived, highly organized as well as detail and deadline oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, internally and externally
  • Ability to work individually or on a team with limited direct supervision.  Strong, analytical and problem- solving skills with a common sense and practical solutions orientation.
  • Keen understanding of current marketing trends
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work some irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with infrequent overnights required

  • *Note: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.  The target hiring range for this position is between $59,000 and $69,000 per annum.
