Statement of need

The Environmental Working Group, a leading environmental health research and advocacy organization, is seeking an EWG VERIFIED® Social Media Senior Manager.

EWG’s mission is to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthy environment. We do this by educating consumers about what chemicals lurk in their personal environment – including their water, food, personal care products and cleaners – and empowering them to fight for better products and policies.

EWG’s digital properties – EWG.org, Skin Deep® and the online social networks Instagram, Facebook and Twitter – are central to us fulfilling our mission. These channels drive tens of million sessions per year and are responsible for raising awareness about EWG’s important work.

This role will focus on growing awareness and building a social media personality for EWG VERIFIED, a licensing program developed to help health and wellness enthusiasts and concerned parents more easily identify safer beauty, personal care, cleaning and baby products. When they choose an EWG VERIFIED product, consumers reduce their exposure to chemicals known to cause harm and support companies committed to using safer ingredients.

The EWG VERIFIED Social Media Senior Manager, reporting directly to the Director of Impact and Strategic Partnerships, will be responsible for developing and administering a social media strategy for our EWG VERIFIED program, designed to engage users, drive traffic and build a new audience for our work. We are looking for a motivated social media enthusiast who can enhance our EWG VERIFIED brand and build strong online communities through our various brand and influencer partnerships.

What you will do:

  • Support the development of a social media strategy to align with EWG VERIFIED’s mission.
  • Manage and execute EWG VERIFIED social media strategy.
  • Build and implement innovative social content that engages target audiences across key social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok and others).
  • Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote the EWG VERIFIED program on both EWG- and EWG VERIFIED–branded social media pages.
  • Collaborate with EWG’s organizational social media and creative teams to generate engaging campaigns that increase awareness of the EWG VERIFIED program.
  • Work with EWG VERIFIED brands on joint social media strategies to promote the program and build awareness for partners.
  • Identify other online content channels, such as wellness and lifestyle brands with large audiences online, that EWG should partner with to drive awareness of EWG’s work.
  • Work with the partnerships team to identify influencers and develop strategic partnerships.
  • Oversee community management on EWG VERIFIED social media channels, including the timely response to community questions and comments.
  • Develop monthly social media analytics reports to measure the success of EWG VERIFIED social media accounts.
  • Provide recommendations, best practices and insights on an ongoing basis.
  • Support relevant PR and marketing projects, as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience leading social for a nonprofit or consumer-facing brand.
  • Keen understanding of the “social media world” – you have seen every meme, spend hours on Instagram and Twitter, and geek out about algorithms.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics and reporting.
  • Experience with visual storytelling, via video production and development.
  • Strong understanding of the modern social media landscape, including the emerging role of influencers in our industries.
  • Collaborative and proactive working style, with ability to work independently, as well as with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated; able to own projects and execute in a timely manner.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • You have excellent judgment, use common sense and learn new things quickly. You are a self-starter and a creative brainstormer.
  • Ability to travel when required.

 

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with publishing platforms such as Sprout Social.
  • Experience implementing paid social campaigns across different social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of EWG’s issues and a curiosity about the impact of the environment on our health.
  • Love for clean beauty and wellness.

 

Location: Washington, D.C., office, with remote possibilities if located in Los Angeles, New York City or San Francisco.

Salary: $70,000 – $75,000

Benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience. EWG offers fully paid, excellent health care, paid parental leave and a tax-deferred 403(b) plan, including matched contributions. It’s a casual, growing office with 40+ engaging co-workers.
