The Executive Director for Content Convergence serves as a key leader on the University Communications team, providing creative and strategic direction for the proactive, innovative placement and distribution of content across a wide variety of internal and external channels and media. Leading a team of content creators and working collaboratively with other teams in Public Affairs – particularly news, strategic initiatives, multimedia, creative and digital – this position is responsible for developing and executing compelling and measurable opportunities for sharing content to tell Washington University’s story broadly in order to drive engagement and build reputation, leveraging new and existing networks and media to broaden the university’s reach among national and global audiences.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partner with editorial and creative teams across Public Affairs to identify opportunities to leverage content through new and traditional media to tell the Washington University story in key areas of excellence, developing strategies for pushing out existing content and/or create new assets in support of storytelling and promotional campaigns. Determine appropriate format for individual opportunities and create strategic plans – with measurable outcomes – for each, then lead team effort to execute against plans.
Assist with the development of strategies to increase engagement and audience on social media, working collaboratively with Senior Director, New Media Strategy to create and execute against robust content strategy. Provide support for social media initiatives as part of a team that is able to mobilize quickly to respond to opportunities as they arise.
In partnership with Public Affairs leadership, provide strategic support for storytelling around high-level university events and opportunities, crafting plans with measurable outcomes for success, and developing content to support overall effort.
Develop and create robust measurement and reporting for all storytelling metrics.
Provide strategic leadership for the exploration of ideas and opportunities that spring from the Content Management Team, facilitating small group projects to develop and execute plans against identified storytelling and promotional campaigns.

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field
10-15 years’ experience in strategic communications and integrated storytelling, with emphasis on developing and producing creative, compelling content to be shared across a wide variety of media
Knowledge of media landscape and ability to match storytelling opportunities with a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional media outlets for maximum exposure
2-3 years management experience
Background in brand journalism is a plus; experience working on an online publication or brand website desirable
4-7 years management experience, with a strong track record of success in leading and motivating a creative team
Familiarity with higher education, Washington University, and St. Louis helpful
Strong, results-driven leader and communicator, skilled in building relationships and helping a team to click
Enthusiastic learner with a passion for creativity, trying new things and leading by positive example
Multi-channel experience with an eye toward how content can be repurposed across digital properties
The ability to create processes that allows for content evolution
Independent self-starter, highly motivated
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong time-management and organization skills
A history of exploring and adopting new communication innovation and tech
Ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven, highly detail-oriented environment
Strong understanding of social media and the use of video/photo in storytelling
Ability to learn new tools and technologies
Proficiency in WordPress, basic HTML and web-based collaboration and content management tools
Must enjoy working with all kinds of people and personalities, and be able to adapt to different communication styles
