Lead our External communications team focused on crafting, amplifying and protecting our brand narrative with external audiences. This role is critical to the planning, implementation and management of a strategic communications plan that supports the organization’s business goals.

Position requires superior communications abilities, understanding of the multi-channel media environment and strong management experience to guide PR agency and creative partners. The role will collaborate closely with the Global Communication & Marketing (GCC&M) team, Syneos Health leaders, subject matter experts and Business Partners to cultivate content for paid, earned and owned channels to further enhance our leadership position as the only fully-integrated biopharmaceutical solutions organization.

Critical success factors include high degree of business acumen and interaction, the ability to navigate complex organizational challenges, contributing to the development and success of the team, and delivering integrated, matrixed enterprise programs. This individual is comfortable directing organizational-wide initiatives and working collaboratively with senior leaders, is proactive, attentive to detail and is mindful of the broader environment – adaptable to change.


  • Lead the creation and execution of a multi-channel external communications plan that increases brand visibility of Syneos Health with key audiences including customers, talent, media and investors.
  • Develop content calendar and production plan that amplifies thought leadership and company news through earned media, sponsored posts and company publications.
  • Lead media relations strategy and manage news flow, including overseeing proactive and reactive opportunities typically with healthcare and pharmaceutical outsourcing trade publications and regional publications.
  • Develop original content to propel the brand narrative, including, but not limited to press releases, bylines, media pitches, social posts, paid editorial placements, executive talking points, award submissions, blogs infographics and videos.
  • Work with social agency to develop company-wide social media strategy, including editorial planning, process planning and governance. Manage growth of the company’s presence on these channels through the development of channel-by-channel strategies and plans.
  • Design Executive visibility plans where appropriate and assist business amplify personal brand social channel presence.
  • Manage quarterly earnings news cadence and liaise on other IR-related activities.
  • When necessary, curate strategic communications plans surrounding enterprise initiatives including M&A, earnings and crisis events, engaging key stakeholders in process.
  • Manage and drive progress on multiple projects at the same time, often to supporting multiple internal leaders or business units. Use a data-driven approach to increase audience engagement.
  • Provide counsel and communications strategy to anticipate, prevent, manage and recover from issues/crises for the company.
  • As necessary, develop new processes related to content production and external materials review.
  • Build a deep understanding of the company’s business goals to tie work directly to desired business outcomes. Also, closely track healthcare/drug development/healthcare outsourcing industry trends and milestones to inform programs.
  • Tap COEs across Communications, Content, Digital and Brand pillars to align approach, prioritization best practice execution.
  • Create tools, templates and methodologies to speed impact, quality and effectiveness – making the GCC&M Team Easy to Work With and For.


  • Actively liaison with Investor Relations to define company performance narrative and define external opportunities
  • Develops and executes media outreach plans to share company news and thought leadership
  • Develops and manages content for social media
  • Provides media and presentation training to subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Selects and drives company and SME award submissions
  • Develops and executes crisis communications
  • Develops M&A playbook and drives on what is communicated publicly and liaises with Employee Communications team and Corporate Strategy
  • Partners with CEO to draft and deploy visibility plan

  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, including ability to craft content in a variety of formats while conveying a consistent brand voice.
  • Ability to guide graphic designers and agencies to craft impactful assets for use on external channels, including, infographics, social posts and video.
  • Advanced editing and proofreading skills, along with a focus on rapid and flawless execution delivering against deadlines.
  • Strong process orientation with a clear track record of implementing best practices that bring simplicity, efficiency and the highest possible quality.
  • Metrics driven with hands-on experience with analytic and tracking tools for media and social engagement
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with a concentration in journalism, communications, public relations or a business-related field highly preferred; Advanced degree (Master’s) preferred or cumulative experience as a practitioner.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience creating and implementing comprehensive communications, media relations, and public affairs strategic plans.
  • Experience managing a team of media relations/corporate communications professionals.
  • Flexible and able to successfully navigate ambiguity and succeed in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to successfully influence and effectively work across functions and personalities
