Job Summary

The Executive Director Global Scientific Communications is responsible for leading strategic planning for Scientific Communication and Medical Information business processes and business system optimization and ensures efficiency and effectiveness of the respective teams across the globe. The Executive Director is a member of the Global Medical Affairs Leadership Team (GMLT) and works closely with all functions in Medical Affairs to optimize efficiency, effectiveness and compliance.

Job Description

  • Leads and directs Global Scientific Communications and Global Medical Information teams

  • Creates and executes Global Publication Plans in collaboration with the Global Medical Director teams

  • Ensures global oversight over all publication and congress activities by Otsuka and Pharmaceutical partners in all therapeutic areas

  • Oversees the cross-functional and joint partner company Global Publication Committees for each therapeutic area

  • Oversees the identification of strategic communications objectives for each therapeutic area and the optimal channels for communication of data by thorough understanding of the therapeutic area publications and societies and journals where such data are presented/published.

  • Oversees editorial development of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, slides, and monographs

  • Maintains repository of scientific papers; ensures that all materials meet regulatory guidelines.

  • Oversees publication and library components of the Ecosystem (Database)

  • Oversees Global Medical Information content and operations, including the central repository of standard response letters and the regional call-centers in the Americas, Europe and Asia

  • Ensures that 2nd line questions (not able to be handled immediately by the call-center) are answered with the highest quality and speed by the accountable staff

  • Ensures seamless relevant data dissemination to Pharmacovigilance, Quality, Legal, Compliance and relevant stakeholders in a compliant manner

  • Develop and implement policies, practices and procedures for Scientific Communications and Medical Information

  • Ensures compliance with all relevant Corporate Policies (CO) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)



  • Master’s or doctoral degree in life sciences

  • 10 years industry experience with a minimum of 5 years in publication planning and medical information

  • Expertise in understanding and complying with all regulations established by PhRMA, FDA, OIG, ICMJE, GPP3 and ACCME

  • Strong communication skills; verbal, written and in group presentations


  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time

  • Experience in Neuroscience or Nephrology preferred
