External Affairs Manager

Political and Communications Focused


Our growing political public relations firm is seeking an External Affairs Manager to serve as a key member of our team. Our firm serves a diverse array of clients and works on busy public relations, government relations, campaign, and social marketing projects. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding in both the political world and communications world and how the two components work together to deliver the best service to clients and their public relations needs. Our team is not for the faint of heart. Our projects are demanding and require driven, detail-oriented critical thinkers with a passion for politics and communications, hunger to learn and achieve, ability to adapt and anticipate, and the skillset required to oversee multi-faceted projects with diverse stakeholders. 


  • Serving as day-to-day contact with assigned clients
  • Preparing correspondence and materials for all client needs
  • Critical thinking to handle challenges as they arise and anticipate future client needs
  • Managing daily operations of multi-faceted projects with broad array of consultant teams
  • Researching and analyzing information to enable strategic decision-making
  • Developing political, marketing, and communication plans and materials
  • Facilitating a successful line of communication between client, diverse stakeholders, and consultant teams
  • Assisting with business development, including client lead development and pitch preparation and execution
  • Assist with firm administrative duties as assigned



  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Must be self-starter with strong critical thinking skills, highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task, initiate projects and prioritize
  • Self-sufficient ability to understand client needs and operate on quick turnarounds with limited instruction
  • Interpersonal skills that enable collaborative working relationships with fellow employees and demonstrate the ability to follow through on projects in a timely manner
  • Confident personality and be comfortable working in high-energy, high-pressure, and quick-turnaround situations
  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required
  • Focus on natural resource policy or advocacy would be beneficial
  • Experience working in or with natural resource industries would be beneficial
  • Must have knowledge of AP style



Qualified candidates should have an interest and familiarity with these areas:

  • State and local government/political affairs
  • Lobbyist
  • Political campaigns (candidate or issue)
  • Communications and marketing
  • Energy, agriculture & other natural resources issues
  • Transportation
  • Tax policy



  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, communications, or related field
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • A working knowledge of Colorado’s political system is an asset
  • Some evenings/weekend work as well as overnight travel will be required
  • Must be discreet, professional, and possess the ability to keep information confidential
