The purpose of the R&D Global Operations team is to provide an exciting, leading, and supportive environment for our people to maximize the value of our pipeline and bring transformative drugs with pace to patients. In North America, we support R&D teams with optimized sites and infrastructure, processes and tools, knowledge, and collaborative initiatives and networks to ensure best-in-class implementation of our project strategies and maximize the engagement of our people across all our sites. At the country level, we work in three main areas together with local R&D leaders and the Sanofi Country Council: People and Culture, Ecosystem and Operations.

Within R&D Global Operations, the Scientific Relations & Initiatives team (SRI) in North America works closely with internal and external partners and stakeholders to de-risk cutting-edge science and technologies, accelerate portfolio progression, enable implementation of new technologies and enhance Sanofi’s reputation as a leading biomedical organization in the region. We are looking for an energetic, purpose-driven leader to manage key partnering initiatives, build new ideation and networking repository tools, strengthen our external engagement and help establish Sanofi’s reputation as the innovative leader in the Biopharma Space. Highly visible, this connected leader will serve as a spokesperson and partner to our key stakeholders, including R&D and external thought leaders, and our business partners, including HR, Communications, Government Affairs/CSR and Science and Policy among others to champion initiatives.


  • Drive new strategic partnerships with academic, startup, patient foundation and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the Sanofi iDEA Award program to test and internalize new AI/digital tools and technologies to support the R&D portfolio to maximize the value proposition for R&D.
  • Drive efforts to develop and execute new intrapreneurial models that foster cross-fertilization, and both empower and showcase talent, including through the Cambridge Crossing Open Innovation Lab and the Innovation Xchange forum, respectively.
  • Manage the implementation of new ideation and networking tools, venues and platforms that strengthen our visibility, external engagement and reputation.
  • Be a trusted partner to Research, Development and partnering functions towards testing and internalizing cutting edge solutions for the pipeline through strategic academic and other value-creating partnerships, including through strong early talent and DE&I initiatives.
  • In partnership with External Communications, contribute to the development of a long-term strategic plan and day-to-day management of external engagement activities for R&D colleagues including identification of scientific engagement opportunities for R&D colleagues with the external community.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key external scientific, medical, policy and payer thought leaders to ensure the highest quality and innovative inputs.
  • Translate disease and external ecosystem understanding into a vision and plan for testing new solutions that can address patient unmet needs which align to Sanofi R&D business priorities.
  • For all key disease areas, develop a deep understanding of the wants and needs of patients, internal stakeholders, and partners, and to be the voice of these stakeholders within Sanofi.
  • Maximize the internalization of new insights, tools and discovery projects coming through award programs and ensure global visibility around high value deliverables coming through partnering initiatives.
  • Conduct timely opportunity assessments based scientific, strategic, and financial considerations working closely with Business Development, Legal, Finance and partnering institutions.
  • Build the business case (market opportunity, scientific rationale, gap analysis, timeline and resources, risks, and considerations) required to optimize partnering strategy.
  • Serve as a key strategic partner to R&D, including the Data & Data Science, Research Platforms, Genomic Medicines, Real-World Evidence Development, Health Value Translation teams.
  • Work across R&D Hubs globally to align efforts around innovation forums and early talent and external ecosystem initiatives.
  • Increase Sanofi R&D’s visibility and reputation.
  • Ensure novel patent filings and co-authored publications.


  • BS required, PhD or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience across different functional groups preferred with experience building external networks and partnerships, including industry-academic partnerships.
  • Good knowledge of the R&D Biopharmaceutical industry, processes and ecosystems
  • Knowledge of the science, technology and business community and ecosystem in North America.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work across a global, matrixed organization.
  • Experience working with cross functional, diverse and multicultural teams to develop portfolio of solutions.
