Your Role and Responsibilities
You will work closely with the Hybrid Cloud Communications team to build visibility of IBM’s hybrid cloud strategy and leadership across resiliency, performance, security and compliance.
This role requires a deep understanding of technology, including a background in cloud. Hybrid cloud is key to driving innovation and delivering enhanced, secure customer experiences for IBM clients across all industries. The ideal candidate must have strong storytelling and media relations skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into stories that resonate with all audiences – all through the lens of digital transformation and hybrid cloud.


This role will focus on communicating client outcomes and IBM’s competitive differentiation. It requires creativity in leveraging client wins, IBM announcements, thought leadership, industry trends and news cycles to identify earned media opportunities and craft timely, interesting and relevant pitches. Using your strong storytelling skills and extensive experience working with technology press, you will secure media engagements, including phone, podcast and video interviews, bylined articles and informational briefings.

To be successful, you must come to work with a ‘sleeves rolled up’ attitude and possess strong writing and presentation skills. You should demonstrate the ability to work closely with business partners and other communications colleagues across business units, as well as actively cultivate mutually-beneficial relationships with media and other influencers. You must be comfortable working independently as well as with large cross-company, multi-disciplinary and global teams in order to accomplish goals.


  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to IBM’s hybrid cloud business leaders
  • Develop and execute earned media communications campaigns
  • Develop written storytelling content, including pitches, blog posts, press announcements, social-media posts and other external communications
  • Identify, advise on and execute high visibility executive speaking opportunities
  • Focus on telling the IBM hybrid cloud story through industry trade publications and beat reporters at top tier outlets
  • Collaborate with business and marketing team leads on content creation, new product and thought leadership initiatives, to drive integrated paid, earned and owned media communications programs
  • Place media stories on IBM innovation and IBM executives that demonstrate technology and business leadership
  • Partner with corporate communications colleagues, geographic communications teams, internal communications experts, social media colleagues and others to maintain cohesive messaging in support of IBM’s global strategy

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 8+ years in media relations, communications or similar experience
  • Experience in technology storytelling and knowledge of the media landscape
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of working independently as well as within a team environment, and across business functions
  • High level of organization and track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience working in a PR agency or in-house communications team
  • Demonstrated success working with clients and/or business partners to uncover stories and support company priorities
  • Ability to understand, synthesize and communicate complex technologies, products and market challenges, specifically cloud computing concepts and trends
  • Experience with media databases, measurement platforms, press release distribution services and media monitoring services
  • Experience working with or managing PR agency partners, providing direction and feedback as needed
