Job Overview: 

The External Relations Manager will be the corporate communications and stakeholder engagement contact at Carbon America. Our ideal candidate possesses skills for building strong connections and reciprocal relationships with stakeholders and crafting effective communications plans and content. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated ability to communicate and navigate issues including complex technical concepts to a broad range of audiences. 


This role will also work with executive leadership to direct and implement a ground-up effort to build our corporate presence within the right channels in media, communities, and related organizations. The Manager will be responsible for authoring content and managing external support resources. They will be experienced in driving strategy and working across disciplines, with executive leadership, and with local communities.  


This is a staff position that reports to the General Counsel. 


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 


  • 10-15 years of experience in communications, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement 
  • Demonstrated ability to research stakeholder landscape and craft communication strategies that navigate competing opinions and complex technical information  
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, engage, and manage external support in implementing plans, such as public relations and marketing firms   
  • Complex project-specific experience 
  • Demonstrated experience working with local regulators and community members 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and thriving in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment 
  • Resourcefulness and a track record of being a successful team player capable of collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams 
  • Flexibility and adaptability, and an ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities 
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines 
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Bachelor’s Degree  


Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement project-specific stakeholder engagement plans 
  • Develop and implement corporate outreach strategy, in collaboration with others 
  • Write press releases, articles, letters, video scripts, and other communications and public relations documents 
  • Create and lead stakeholder relationships 
  • Support of specific CCS projects with an emphasis on local outreach (e.g, stakeholder research, communications, planning for and representing Carbon America at local events), and broader communications in support of Carbon America’s mission.   


General Requirements and Job Details: 

  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to eight hours per day 
  • This position is based out of our Arvada, Colorado offices 
  • Travel to project communities required. Estimated at 25% of the time but intermittent. 
  • This is a Monday through Friday, Full-Time, Exempt position with a salary range of $70,000-$112,000
