The American Financial Services Association (AFSA), the national trade association for the consumer credit industry, seeks a Federal Government Affairs and Compliance Coordinator in its Washington, DC office. The Federal Government Affairs and Compliance Coordinator will support staff on federal legislative, regulatory and compliance policy issues and provide administrative support for AFSA’s political action committee (AFSAPAC).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and policy support to the federal government affairs and compliance departments.
  • Conduct research on legislative, regulatory, compliance, and policy issues affecting the consumer finance industry.
  • Attend and report on selected congressional and agency hearings.
  • Draft and edit advocacy materials such as comment letters, talking points, fact sheets, and reports.
  • Research and write articles for AFSA’s weekly newsletter and other publications and update department websites.
  • Coordinate AFSA member communications regarding congressional, regulatory, and compliance developments.
  • Assist Director of Congressional and Political Affairs with PAC fundraising campaign, including the preparation of marketing materials, member communications and organization of internal fundraising events.
  • Provide administrative support for AFSAPAC, including tracking and analyzing PAC donor and disbursement data in Excel, preparing reports and graphs, and coordinating AFSAPAC’s donor recognition program.
  • Provide support for AFSA conferences, committee meetings, and member calls.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:

  • A proven track record of impeccable editing and writing skills. Meticulous attention to detail is essential.
  • Must have a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and ability to work with staff in a cordial and tactful manner.
  • Must project a professional demeanor when interacting with association members and government officials.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate tasks, and to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and to work as part of a team.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially with Excel pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of federal campaign finance laws and Aristotle 360 a plus.
  • Must be able to travel for 3-5 day events 3-5 times per year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, business, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience within the political or association arenas a plus. This is an entry level position.
