YouthBuild USA, located in Roxbury, MA, is the nonprofit support center for YouthBuild programs. It provides technical assistance, innovative program enhancements, quality assurance systems, and advocacy to help ensure that every YouthBuild program can create impact in its community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Field Mobilization Manager is a full-time, hybrid position, combining remote and in-person work, and reporting directly to the Director of Advocacy and Policy. The ideal applicant would be an experienced grassroots organizer or policy advocate that will be responsible for building relationships with YouthBuild programs across the country and helping lead engagement with federal elected officials and members of the Administration in support of funding and policy issues. Additionally, the Manager will play a key role in organizing YouthBuild Capitol Hill Days, both virtual and in-person. This is not an entry level position; prior experience advocating before elected officials and policy makers and grassroots mobilization are required. The applicant must be well organized, tech savvy, professional, and an outstanding problem solver. The applicant should be highly motivated, have excellent time-management skills, and demonstrate sensitivity to working with people of diverse cultural, political, and religious backgrounds.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Field Based Advocacy & Mobilization

  • Participate in the development and execution of government relations efforts in support of greater funding for YouthBuild programs and improvements in relevant public policy
  • In partnership with the team, encourage, support, and leverage all field relationships related to advocacy, in particular field relationships with federal elected officials.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining a broad network of relationships with Directors and sometimes Executive Directors of local YouthBuild programs, and for creating capacity-building informational materials to support these field relationships.
  • Collaborates closely with the Affiliated Network Manager in building field relationships and communications.

Tracking & Performance Management

  • Regularly inputs data to track interactions with local programs, ensuring that there is a strong record and a mechanism for follow up.
  • Collects information on program funding sources, success stories, interactions with elected officials, and relationships with private sector leaders, and aligns these efforts with annual goals and tracks against last year’s benchmarks.
  • Provides support for the data entry and tracking of Congressional visits, calls, and interactions utilizing the organization’s database system.
  • Creates and improves team tracking systems as needed.

 

Communications

  • Coordinates advocacy conference calls with the field, updating local programs on activities in the field and peer achievements.
  • Works with communications team to regularly update social media and website content on advocacy.
  • Sends out communications about advocacy to the field.

Capitol Hill Day Planning

  • Supports the Senior Director of Advocacy and Policy in the planning of two or three virtual and/or in-person Capitol Hill days including training and curriculum development, logistics, materials, and scheduling.
  • Participates in the National Director’s Association Annual Meeting planning committee.

Technical Support

  • Acquires knowledge of YouthBuild data that can be used for advocacy and communications.

 

 

Coalition/Collaborative support: 

  • Together with the Director of Advocacy and Policy, engages with the leadership of the various state coalitions, including initiatives that could provide state and local funding for the field.
  • May coordinate the launch of new state coalition efforts, which may include facilitating meetings, providing guidance and materials, and cultivating leaders to run the coalition.
  • Participates in strategic conversations about the organization’s approach to supporting coalitions and regional collaboratives.

Engage Graduates

  • With the advocacy team and the alumni services team, engages with YouthBuild alumni around the country interested in YouthBuild’s advocacy efforts.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Organized approach to and demonstrated excellence in building and tracking relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including ability to generate advocacy materials such as toolkits and guides usable by local programs and YouthBuild students and graduates
  • Strong project management and time management skills. Detail-oriented self-starter with ability to independently manage projects and multi-task.
  • Ability to work with and interpret data
  • Persistent attitude in the face of challenges
  • Team-oriented approach to work; strong work ethic; mission-driven, results-oriented approach to work
  • Commitment to social justice and passion for amplifying youth voice
  • Experience/comfort with CRM databases and Microsoft Office software suite a plus
  • Experience/comfort with technology and digital communications tools, including social media
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Understanding of the federal appropriations process and the U.S. political system, politically savvy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years professional experience in at least one of the following (preferred) areas: partnership building, working for an elected official, communications, advocacy, organizing, fundraising, campaign work, government, youth development, or related.
  • Previous experience working with a YouthBuild program as a staff member or graduate, or experience working with youth preferred but not required.
