HDR is currently seeking a Global Corporate Communications Director to orchestrate the tone and delivery of worldwide internal and external communications. You will help shape the channels and style of communications which drive our business. As a partner to the executive leadership of our organization, your goal will be to implement strategies that illustrate and connect passion and feelings to our greater purpose as an organization – becoming unrivaled to our people, our clients and the communities we serve.
This position will report to the Corporate Development Director and will lead our global communications teams to support our brand, marketing, internal and external communications efforts.

Your industry intuition provides you with a strategic perspective on how all communications with clients, communities, associations, public leaders and employees sculpt how our organization is perceived and is appreciated. You have high levels of emotional intelligence and you know how to build rapport with diverse teams around a common vision of what is possible. You thrive on a collaborative, creative approach that achieves communication objectives, reflects who we are and inspires every audience.
More specific responsibilities include:
Partner with key stakeholders in Human Resources, Inclusion and Diversity, Finance, IT, Enterprise Risk and leaders across the company to understand initiatives that impact our employees, clients and communities. Create global communications plans to support those initiatives. Ultimately ensure that communications consistently support our overall 2022 Strategic Plan.
Develop and direct internal communication strategies that create a consistent two-way flow of communication for our employees with the goal of keeping them informed and inspired, creating channels for their feedback to help drive change.
Lead communication strategies (in conjunction with Business and Operational leadership) as a partner to key industry associations that HDR embraces and supports. Understand associations’ goals in a way that our communications advance their mission for the industry. This includes educational campaigns on infrastructure needs, regulatory impacts to the A/E industry, and policies that influence HDR’s business and clients.
Strategize with HDR Business Group leadership on goals of our clients and develop communications that support their mission.
Understand the political and civic affairs subtleties that drive our industry. Serve as a business partner to Business, Operational and Corporate leadership to develop communications strategies around these dynamics.
Create and routinely adapt a comprehensive annual communications editorial calendar with involvement by Business Group, Operational and Corporate stakeholders. Work with company executives to adjust the plan in support of emerging initiatives. Assure messages are being consistently planned for and woven together in an organizationally and globally inclusive manner that reflects local cultures and community values.
Drive a deliberate, consistent thought process around all how our communications sculpt the perception of our services to our clients and communities.
Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to the global communications and social media teams, including communication team budget management.
Direct and supervise communications staff. Establish quality and accountably metrics.
Using personal writing skills, write memorable and engaging communications that inform, educate and inspire.
Track communication campaign effectiveness.
Manage crisis communications working with the Company Executive Team.
Harmonize social media channels/platforms.
Support media relations, brand, civic affairs, community relations initiatives, and industry outreach events and activities associated with HDR presence in the global marketplace.
Work to support Intranet and Internet functionality, content and governance.
10+ years’ experience in the architecture, engineering, planning or construction industry on the front line of dealing with and understanding client needs and the industry dynamics that influence our business.
Demonstrated past experience in supporting/driving communications through internal and external channels in support of an organizational vision.
Experience with digital assets such as mobile apps, intranet, internet and social media as effective communications tools strongly preferred.
Willingness to travel is required.
Thorough working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, and social media.
Work in client development, marketing, or related activities.
Writing samples will be required.
Preference given to candidates with ability to be based in Omaha, NE.
