Global Programs Manager
For almost 30 years, the Victory Institute has helped to train, place and elect thousands of openly LGBTQ public officials at every level of government. Our leaders have been catalysts for expanding legal rights for LGBTQ people across the country, and they have transformed our nation’s policies and shifted our political landscape towards equality, one election at a time.
Globally, Victory Institute trains international LGBTQ leaders, collaborates with political parties for greater inclusion of LGBTQ people, raises public awareness around democratic governance, and conducts research on LGBTQ political participation in countries outside the United States. Victory Institute has partnered with local and national organizations to train LGBTQ leaders in the Balkans, Central America, Colombia, Dominican Republic, India, Peru, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa.
Victory Institute is seeking a Global Programs Manager. Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Programs, the Global Programs Manager is responsible for routine interactions with local partners and assisting with the implementation of the department’s programs. The ideal candidate will have experience working on human rights issues globally with a particular focus in Latin America and/or the Caribbean, grant reporting knowledge, an excellent written and spoken command of Spanish and English (including writing, building, and sending emails) and experience analyzing trends and data.
General Responsibilities
Program Execution
The Global Programs Manager will be an efficient, effective and organized individual who is able to analyze and synthesize information on diverse topics and apply that knowledge to execute and enhance Victory Institute’s global programs. They will also be comfortable with program outreach, recruitment, and evaluation. They must be articulate and comfortable discussing Victory Institute’s work with the public, with elected and appointed officials, and with key stakeholders, including funders.
Programmatic Responsibilities:
- Manage the creation and implementation of our Global training programs. This includes the recruitment and selection process for global trainees and trainers, as well as the development of timely and relevant programming under the supervision of the Senior Director of Global Programs.
- Support the team in organizing a Latin American and Caribbean-wide regional conference every two years.
- Communicate with LGBTQ leaders in program countries in an effort to grow Victory Institute’s global network of leaders.
- Assist in writing progress reports on programming and grant-related work.
- Other duties as assigned.
General Administrative Responsibilities
- Attend weekly check-in meetings with global team.
- Coordinate responses to external inquiries about the global program.
- Provide on-site assistance for Victory Institute events.
- Coordinate travel logistics as needed for speakers and program participants.
Organization-wide Responsibilities
- Participate in periodic all-staff meetings and report on the status, needs and accomplishments of assigned programs.
- Assist other teams as required including supporting Victory Institute’s International LGBTQ Leaders Conference in Washington DC.
- Be an active and engaged participant in annual staff retreats, and offer support for board meetings, strategic planning and other Executive Team needs.
- Participate in and assist with fundraising events for both the Fund and Institute.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university, plus two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Commitment to the mission is a must.
- Fluent in Spanish and English, both conversationally and in writing (will test). Portuguese and French knowledge are desirable.
- Ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Desire to be a problem-solver.
- Capable of working independently to meet hard deadlines.
- Ability to travel internationally.
- Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
Position location is Washington, DC, preferred. The location of a candidate applying to the position and/or willingness of the candidate to relocate to the Washington, DC, area may be taken into account when making hiring decisions.
The salary for this position is $65,000. The salary for this permanent position is dictated by grant funding and is therefore non-negotiable. Full-time staff are eligible for Victory’s comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, dental, health reimbursement account, medical flexible spending account, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, 401k, parental leave and generous paid time off.
