Position Summary

The National Multifamily Housing Council is currently seeking a detail-oriented Government Affairs Associate with excellent writing skills to provide administrative and communications support to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and the Government Affairs team, including NMHC PAC.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Senior Manager of Government Affairs to produce content to support legislative priorities.
  • Assist with creating presentations, speeches and other written communications.
  • Maintain the legislative and regulatory content on NMHC’s website including ensuring that advocacy material and hyperlinks are current.
  • Edit, proofread and format content and provide information and communications support to the Government Affairs staff.
  • Assist NMHC PAC in maintaining the budget and sending out communications.
  • Assist and manage various projects, including meeting material, for the Government Affairs department.
  • Search subscription news services, industry publications and the web to keep abreast of news and issues related to multifamily housing and forward background materials and articles to Government Affairs staff.
  • Maintain and act as lead contact for news service, publications and membership subscriptions.
  • Maintain overall Government Affairs calendar and assist with NMHC PAC political affairs calendar.
  • Coordinate conference calls and meetings and make travel arrangements for the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs.
  • Schedule meetings and conference calls for other Government Staff as needed.
  • Develop strong relationships with NMHC internal stakeholders, particularly senior lobbyists and policy experts.
  • Maintain appropriate level of communication with Government Affairs staff to assure timely, accurate, and complete information about ongoing issues and activities.
  • Contribute to the strategic plans of the department.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Some travel may be required.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and capably handle multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Organized with an eye for detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including but not limited to executives, managers and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to be a team player as well as work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • B.A. or B.S. required.
