Position Overview: The Manager will be responsible for public, government and regulatory relations in Hawaii, identifying the needs and priorities for the state and local communities where AES operates. A key responsibility will be to contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy and collaborative solutions to further AES’s objectives in Hawaii. The Manager will be able to communicate effectively and advocate to social organizations, government officials, public and private institutions, regulatory agencies, and educational institutions, while representing AES in Hawaii competently and professionally. It will be essential for this person to develop strategies and then build the necessary networks to effectively execute on the strategies. The Manager will be responsible for carrying out the objectives of AES’ government affairs and community relations through outreach, education, advocacy, partnership and communication in Hawaii that will enable strong relationships and trust with leaders, interest groups, regulatory agencies and the communities.
Specifically, the Government Affairs and Community Engagement Manager will:
Stakeholder management & Community Engagement
§ Identify and map stakeholders, including community leaders/grassroot groups and other interest groups
§ Develop and execute a community management plan and monitor its success.
§ Coordinate the logistics of Community Engagement activities.
§ Visit the communities and plan meetings as necessary to establish relationships with the different associations and community/interest groups.
§ Identify charitable contribution opportunities and track and record all sponsorships and requested donations. Make sure any donations comply with the compliance requirements.
§ Ensure all AES actions are respectful of the Hawaiian culture and heritage and that we adhere to and embrace the appropriate customs.
§ Liaise with local consultants, including marketing and communication groups and lobbyists.
Support Government and Regulatory affairs
§ Proactively mitigate risks by monitoring community, government and regulatory affairs.
§ Work with lobbyists to follow bills and advise on potential impact to our businesses.
§ Act as a representative of AES at local meetings as well as government hearings.
§ Track upcoming events and attend meetings and hearings, and when necessary help coordinate AES’s testimony.
Support communications efforts
§ Serve as the primary spokesperson for the company in Hawaii and be the ‘face of AES’ in public settings and events.
§ Work with stakeholder management, commercial and communications team to develop messages that could tell “AES story in Hawaii”, aligned with the AES Global message. This includes materials for community meetings, factsheets and marketing related materials.
§ Ensure all messaging and stakeholder management efforts are aligned across islands and AES groups.
