Job description

The Government Affairs Director is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Society’s government affairs program, serving as chief policy advisor to the CEO, board of directors, and political action committee.


 Maintain up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of key policy issues facing Society members in the areas of licensure, taxation, audit, and business-related issues

 Closely monitor Kentucky state legislature, key state legislative committees, Kentucky
Board of Accountancy, and key state agencies for issues affecting Society members

 Working with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), monitor activities of Congress and key CPA standard-setting bodies for issues affecting Society members

 Develop and implement lobbying strategies and advocate Society’s policy positions to state and federal lawmakers and agencies

 Develop and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, regulators, state agency officials, and government affairs professionals

 Participate in key stakeholder groups, including chambers of commerce, Kentucky Small
Business Caucus, and other state business organizations

 Regularly report on any policy issues affecting Society members to board of directors and members at Society conferences, meetings, and events

 Collaborate with the AICPA and other state society government affairs staff on universal issues affecting the CPA profession

 Manage contract lobbying team and various member committees, including Taxation,
Emerging Standards and Insurance committees

 Works with KyCPA’s Tax Committee in planning the KY State Tax conference in

 Manage and advise Society’s political action committee (PAC) and direct PAC fundraising efforts

 Develop regular legislative updates, talking points, white papers, and other policy-related communications for lawmakers and Society members

 Manage Society insurance programs, including the Association Health Care Plan for
Society members

 Educational Foundation Annual Golf Scramble including facility arrangements, catering, marketing and providing a full accounting of all revenues and expenses

 10+ speaking engagements per year


 Ability to analyze and explain state and federal regulatory and legislative policy proposals

 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Comfortable with public speaking
 Experience navigating the legislative process and political landscape
 Strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
 Ability to network and build strong relationships

This position requires travel both in and out of the state and interaction with large crowds.
