Salary Range:  $144,000-$185,000 annually (paid bi-weekly)



Career Summary: 

Reporting to the VP of Policy and Government Affairs, The Director of Government Affairs provides leadership and strategic direction to the government affairs team.  The incumbent of this position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team including advancement of ANA’s advocacy priorities and objectives, development of yearly success metrics and the development and oversight of the government affairs team budget.  In collaboration with the Vice President of Policy and Government affairs provides strategic guidance on ANA’s lobbying activities, grassroots engagement, and political action activities.    The incumbent of this position will participate in association-wide efforts to develop and sustain a positive work environment, and high performing teams, as evidence by improved employee satisfaction and superior outcomes.


Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree desired.


Related Work Experience:

Ten or more years of relevant work experience with proven success in advancing legislation, development and implementation of successful advocacy strategies, grassroots engagement and growing political action committees. Five or more years of leadership experience with a proven track record of managing high-performance teams including goals development and mentorship. Extensive knowledge of the legislative process, grassroots engagement, and PAC management. Knowledge of impact on climate change on health and social determinants of health desired.



  • Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive congressional advocacy strategies leading to legislative successes
  • 5 years management/supervisory skills including leading highly seasoned Senior level lobbyists.   Strong experience in managing and supporting bi-partisan advocacy efforts
  • In-depth understanding of the legislative process
  • Proven success in developing, maintaining, and growing both grassroots and grass-tops programs
  • Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and other health care financing systems.
  • Knowledge of impact of climate change on health and other social determinants of health
  • Strong knowledge of federal compliance laws
  • Ability to understand complex policies and issues and synthesize them clearly and compellingly.
  • Exceptional, and demonstrated written and oral communication skills including public speaking and the preparation of issues summaries, testimony, and other written reports of technical and complex nature
  • Ability to prioritize, manage and compete multiple, complex projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Discretion, tact, the ability to act independently with good judgment and the ability function as part of a team.


Work Schedule: 

Hybrid: Employees are considered Hybrid if they are regularly scheduled to work in at least 20% of their work week or work month in an ANA Enterprise Office.

Hybrid employees are expected to travel to the office when requested and/or when necessary to achieve results or meet business needs.

  • The ANA Enterprise will hire primarily from the District of Columbia (DC), Maryland (MD), and Virginia (VA).   
  • Candidates may apply from other U.S. states and territories; however, prior to being granted an interview by a HR and/or a hiring official, the ANAE Risk and Compliance office must approve that the U.S. state or territory is registered or able to be registered to conduct business with the ANAE.
