The Opportunity:
As CCI’s State & Local Government Affairs Lead you will support the development and advancement of CCI’s policy and advocacy goals at the state and local levels, with a strong initial focus on key states, CA & NY. Reporting to the Head of Government Affairs, you will develop and promote the organization’s advocacy strategies, policy positions and papers, analyze state and local legislative developments and financing issues, and represent the organization in a wide variety of state and local forums.
In this role, you will work collaboratively with a diverse community of Partners to translate research on the responsible use and regulation of crypto into evidence-based information for state & local policymakers. You will engage regularly with state legislatures and local policymakers.
Responsibilities

- Together with the Head of Government Affairs, drive CCI’s policy agenda with state and local lawmakers, beginning with a focus on NY & CA
- Build and maintain relationships with pertinent state and local policy stakeholders across government, CCI’s private sector and other partners, and in the broader responsible crypto ecosystem
- Identify opportunities for CCI to engage with civil society to promote the development of effective public policy
- Work closely with CCI’s state working group
- Organize and participate in multi-stakeholder convenings to gather information and multiple perspectives
- Monitor, interpret, and analyze state and local policy developments as well as emerging topics in the media. Develop CCI’s capacity to assess those issues and topics in order to take specific positions
- Collaborate closely with CCI policy researchers to develop outputs that educate and inform policy makers, partners and other stakeholders
- Work with the Director of Communications to develop materials for policy outreach, and publicize our work through both media relations and thought leadership
- Support the expansion of a diverse and inclusive partner community
- Contribute to the development of materials for CCI Board of Directors as needed
- Coordinate CCI responses to external stakeholders on state and local policy matters, including those made by government entities
- Represent CCI on various platforms on state and local policy related topics
About You
-
- 4-10 years relevant experience working in, or closely with, state and local governments
- Extensive experience with government affairs and tech related public policy in settings such as governments, think tanks, or corporations, focusing on issues closely or directly related to crypto
- Demonstrated ability to work across sectors and develop successful collaborations
- Track record of growing and developing relationships with stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds and points of view
- Relationship and consensus building skills, including experience working with or managing coalitions; comfort working with both policy experts and novices; strong listening skills
- Superior research skills; ability to quickly and accurately pull key facts or statistics to support a broader policy position, tied to strong and accurate sourcing
- Experience analyzing and interpreting legislative and regulatory language
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A passion for crypto/web3, and eagerness to learn
- Ability to travel as needed
