The Government Affairs Manager is a full-time remotely based position and reports directly to the Chief of Programs. The selected applicant will be an experienced government relations professional that will be responsible for engaging federal elected officials and members of the Administration primarily in support of a wide range of conservation policy and funding issues, as well as representing the organization in a variety of issue-oriented coalitions. Additionally, the Manager will serve as the lead for Hispanic Access’ initiative Latino Advocacy Week, which is held in the spring. This is not an entry level position and prior experience advocating before Congress is required. The applicant must be fully bilingual, well organized, tech savvy, professional, and an outstanding problem solver. The candidate must display flexibility and excellent attention to detail. The applicant should be highly motivated, have excellent time-management skills, demonstrate sensitivity to working with people of diverse cultural, political and religious backgrounds, and be willing to travel nationally.


Government Relations Strategy

  • Contribute to the development of strategy and execute Government Relations plan
  • Participate in the development and execution of the long term Government Relations strategy
  • Lead the development, growth, partnerships and future planning of Latino Advocacy Week

Government Relations

  • Engage elected officials, peers, and other key influencers to educate them about our organization and our activities while assessing and carrying-out strategic partnerships for the organization
  • Track ongoing activity and report
  • Represents the organization on various coalitions, committees, and working groups
  • Identify and execute opportunities and events to position the organization and positions among key influencers.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage Hispanic Access initiatives like Latino Conservation Week and Latino Advocacy Week to engage key stakeholders

Policy Development

  • Develop whitepapers and toolkits, and prepare memos on issues at local, state and/or federal levels
  • Identify opportunities to establish Hispanic Access as a thought leader on conservation, workforce diversity and historical/cultural preservation.
  • Monitor legislation and regulatory matters and advise the organization with respect to policy challenges

Influence & Thought Leadership

  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for thought leadership at all levels
  • Develop relationships with key influencers externally to advance our presence and influence among key stakeholders
  • Meet with functional leaders across the organization to identify projects that could be accelerated or improved by collaborating with Government Relations
  • Build relationships with key external policymakers and other influential federal, state and local government-oriented stakeholders
  • Build third party political, advocacy and industry allies to support strategic policy objectives


  • 4+ years of experience in the legislative space; previous Hill, administration, campaign, and nonprofit experience included
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Extensive knowledge of the legislative process
  • Experience with conservation and/or Latino issues a plus
  • Ability to organize time effectively, work independently, and coordinate multiple priorities within a diverse legislative portfolio
  • Excellent communications, analytical, writing, and research skills
  • Fluent written and oral skills in both Spanish/English a plus
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to be effective independently, while also being a highly resourceful team-player
  • Collaborative work style; strong work ethic; mission-driven, results-oriented approach to work
  • Creativity and flexibility to undertake new assignments and identify new opportunities

While the position is primarily remote, the Washington, DC metro area is required.


The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 annually depending on qualifications and experience.
