Government Affairs and Policy Manager

(Minimum THREE years of experience working in Legislative Office, Congressional Office, or in a Government Affairs Consulting Agency)

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Government Affairs and Policy Manager to support our clients’ public policy and advocacy engagements. In this role, you will be responsible for providing thought partnership and tactical support to help our clients stay ahead of changes to the legislative and regulatory landscape. You will provide research and analyses on a variety of issues, monitor critical government activities, and engage with state and local government and staff. You must have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to think analytically and strategically in a collaborative, collegial environment.


Issues Management and Advocacy:

  • Research, monitor and track state and local legislative and regulatory issues.
  • Track policy issues and updates by monitoring traditional media, social media, and blogs.
  • Prepare comprehensive analyses on policy issues.
  • Summarize news, industry association publications, and journal articles, capturing trends on key issues.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Maintain a detailed, up-to-date record of our clients’ interactions and engagement with key government stakeholders.
  • Research and prepare detailed briefing materials for meetings with government stakeholders.
  • Organize meetings and prepare debrief summaries.
  • Participate in meetings and events with key stakeholders.


  • Prepare messaging and talking points.
  • Draft copy for legislative summaries, policy position papers, presentations, email updates, and stakeholder-facing newsletters.
  • Serve in a secretariat role for policy working group meetings.



  • Bachelor’s degree.


  • Minimum three years of experience analyzing legislation and/or policy issues in a legislative office, Congressional office or in a government affairs consulting agency.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and writing political or policy communications.
  • Experience in the following positions preferred:
  • Legislative Analyst
  • Public Affairs Specialist
  • Government Relations Manager


  • Attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Impeccable research, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using legislative tracking software (StateNet a plus).
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Self-starter attitude.
  • Facility with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
