Your Role: Works on moderate to complex public policy issues with independence, utilizing policy experience and expertise/direction from specialist staff and management. Presents to legislators, trade groups and other interested parties.

Your work:

  • Analyzes proposed, pending and existing legislation, ballot initiatives and regulatory proposals for impact on the company and our members and protects against policies harmful to CSAA IG. Updates guiding principles as necessary. Develops recommendations for company positions based on research.
  • Communicates with stakeholders, public officials, community organizations, businesses and trade groups about CSAA IG positions and services.  Creates and delivers formal presentations as necessary.  Supports events and educational forums that CSAA IG sponsors.  May include media relations if appropriate and experience supports.
  • Builds working relationships with government officials, insurance commissioners, trade associations and external stakeholders.
  • Prepares and delivers testimony before legislative, administrative hearings and public events on CSAA IG positions and expertise.  May or may not require formal registered lobbying. May require registering as a formal lobbyist.
  • Project management that includes \educational campaigns supporting CSAA IG and its community outreach programs.
  • Maintain compliance rules to all legally required registrations for CSAA IG.
  • Contributes to a monthly department newsletter with updated summaries and timely topics

Required:

  • Working knowledge of legislative/administrative process and industry related issues
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to travel and have flexible working hours that cover multiple time zones.

Preferred:

  • Project management skills
  • Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area (Business, Public Relations, Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, Transportation studies, or related field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 – 5 years previous professional level experience in insurance/transportation/government/public or media relations – private or government sector consulting, or policy analysis, writing for external audiences and public presentations

Preferred:

  • Experience with legislative and public affairs
  • Shows respect for differences through excellent communication skills with people from an array of backgrounds.

The national average salary range for this position is $87,000 – $96,000.  However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full salary range for this position across all the states we hire in is $87,000 – $116,000.  This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 8% of eligible pay.
